Titanium for TONZ??
I see GFS is selling titanium parts-strat saddles, strat trem blocks, tele saddles, tele bridge plates. I've never heard of titanium adding TONZ, just $$ to your guitar project but my experience is pretty limited. I REALLY like titanium as I used to do machining & fabrication and I really like cool metals. I can see using a titanium tele bridge plate just for the cool factor but I think I would swap in some Wilkenson compensated saddles.
Anyone heard of titanium = TONZ??

Re: Titanium for TONZ??
I have a Compton titanium bridge on my JMJM. It certainly sounded much better than the cheap roller bridge I had on it, enough for my mother to comment about it unprompted. So much overtones. And I was using the same strings and all
Maybe it was just the nature of the bridge itself but then again I did buy it used. There are some clips of different bridge materials on here http://www.comptonbridges.com/soundclips" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Titanium for TONZ??
All I know is, after I got my Thin Skin Jag I was thinking of swapping out the stock bridge saddles for Mustang saddles, & some Japanese outfit was touting titanium Mustang saddles, so I walked into Centaur Guitar one day & asked Kelly & Jason if titanium saddles would enhance my TONZ, & they just laughed, which was answer enough.

Re: Titanium for TONZ??
none of the best sounding guitars to this point in history had titanium parts.
for whatever that's worth.
this could fall into the 'solution looking for a problem' category

That's what people in the shaving industry said. "Razor blades are made of steel. There has never been a successful blade made of titanium".
Some visionary blade makers pushed on, and now titanium is an expectation when introducing new razors.
In no way is it a marketing gimmick. How did people shave before titanium?
Besides being super functional, it is really cool to say.
Oh, also, golf clubs.

Titanium conrods...yes. Not sure about it on guitars. There's many different types and grades of Titanium (just like steel), I guess there's a chance that GFS have the one that is good for this sort of thing but they don't exactly strike me as a detail orientated brand. I'd guess your money would be better spent on conventional parts made to a higher and more proven standard.

I know there are aluminum saddles for Telecasters... Do hard-anodized (i.e., with a surface of aluminum oxide) aluminum saddles exist for any guitars? If so, theoretically they would be harder than stainless steel. Anybody ever encounter this beast in the wild & hear its roar?

Re: Titanium for TONZ??
The only reason I tend to buy new pedals and gear these days is because I think it looks cool.
I doubt titanium parts will make a guitar sound massively better, but if it makes the player happy I'd do it.

I'm thinking a "high tech" tele with a titanium bridge plate and carbon fiber guard... It could be the "Race Tele".

Re: Titanium for TONZ??
there is actually a titanium mustang bridge thats been out for a while. TONZ yes probably. extra $100 worth of TONZ probably not, if they are all this expensive maybe for teles and strats its not the case as much...
I read some post somewhere like gearslutz that gave the suggestion to use golfers lead tape where you want more mass or even as shielding...hm...Well the higher up the periodic table you go there must be more tonz, but it wont be for days because it starts to have a short radioactive half-life so it certainly wouldn't be "4 DAIZ".
colbalt and m-steel and helix strings though, i'm into them but often come in ridiculous sets..seems that putting mass, or magnetism where its needed (the strings might be more productive?

Re: Titanium for TONZ??
If your tele has anything other than 3 brass saddles, you are doing it wrong
But seriously, Titanium has never caught on because it doesn't 'age' well, and that is all us guitarists think about these days.
