Blue pzorito Jazzblaster Finished Pg. 2

Post by HNB » Fri Oct 12, 2018 7:15 pm

I was eyeing this body online. I have two other bodies pzorito has made. When I was able to pick up a loaded WRHB pickguard, I needed a body and grabbed this up. It wasn't without a problem though. One of the tremolo screws had snapped off at the head. I have removed broken screws before, so I wasn't worried. I was going to drill around it, but the copper tube I got wasn't straight enough so I did the "drill a hole next to it so you can wiggle it out" method. That didn't really work either, so I chiseled from the tremolo cavity until I got to the screw. Turns out it was curved and broken and that is why I couldn't pull it out. I drilled the hole out to make it round so I could glue a dowel in. Got that glued in and then used my chisel to square it off. First problem was fixed. I wanted to rout the pickup cavities deeper to work with the WRHB. To do this, I needed to take the bridge thimbles out. Problem number two.... those were super stuck in. I tried head and pliers and couldn't get them off. The top ring actually ripped off of one. I decided to drill them out instead. I found a bit that was a tiny bit bigger than the inside of the bridge thimble and used the drill press. It pulled both of them up pretty quickly. After that, I was able to rout the cavities deeper. When trying to install the new thimbles, I figured out the bridge wire hole didn't go all the way to the cup. I found a hole from the tremolo cavity I could use, but I don't like having wires in the tremolo cavity since it has moving parts, so I drilled a hole to the thimble instead and it is all ready to wire. I was able to do one coat of shielding paint also. I need to do two more. Here are pics. :)

The thimble remains and that cruddy broken screw.

I got the pickguard shielded and wired up. I need more shielding paint before I attach it to the body. :)

My totally pro drying station. Big headstock is for this one, the small is for Slimer. ;)

Next time you're in a fight with bridge timbles; try heating it with a soldering iron and they should slide up quite easily.

I used the soldering iron. Didn't budge. :)

I got the second coat of shielding done. Also took the tape off the headstock. I will clean up the edge before I start putting some clear on.

Looking great!

What shielding spray do you use? I've seen some epic stuff a few guys in the UK used (military grade), but most of the stuff I've seen here in the US isn't all that great.
