Re: What's on your workbench right now?
i am beguin to be fed up ,too much troubles with the varnish ,lot of holes always reappears even if i sand ,then i change my way to do ,i put too much varnish on to fill them (it is the 3 rd coat that i have resand i hope it will be the last ) too much trouble du to temperature ,varnish dilution ,sparkle ground ect ......
then i see when it will be dry, to put one more or keep it like this (it will not be perfect i have done my funeral for it )

I went with GuitarFetish. Reasonably cheap. Small boards.

Great work. The holes look like solvent pop - (pinholes that start to appear in your clear). I feel your pain, and have gone through this countless times till I got my technique down pat. I don't know where you are but it could be temperature, but it's most likely caused by short flash times, coats that maybe a little too thick and too close a spraying distance. Let's not forget that if your sparkle ground coat is metal flake that it will have to be buried under 4-5 coats of clear and it won't even out till it's buried.ludobag1 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 2:49 ami am beguin to be fed up ,too much troubles with the varnish ,lot of holes always reappears even if i sand ,then i change my way to do ,i put too much varnish on to fill them (it is the 3 rd coat that i have resand i hope it will be the last ) too much trouble du to temperature ,varnish dilution ,sparkle ground ect ......

I'd look at reducing any wind coming into your workshop as a breeze maybe causing the solvent to evaporate too quickly. I'd also look to doing the finger tack test for flash times (not directions from a can/mix). Touch some of the masking tape. If your finger can slide sideways then wait, if it's tacky/lifts maksing paper then recoat. I'd also look to do lots of very light coats from this stage, and change your spraying distance - you maybe too close and are laying down too much solvent which has to make it's way through a very thick coat - in turn causing pinholes.
From the pictures the body looks great. Just focus on the areas with the holes (valleys) as these won't cut/buff out. They will get bigger when polished.

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
thanks guy but as i said i am fed up and don't know if it will better or not if i redo a coat on, i can't attach pics of the worst before they are block on my phone
as i paint outside it is difficult to control wind (temperature also !)
it have enought varnish on the sparkle to bury them ,i have even sand it flat to prepare the last coat but it is this last coat that make me trouble
in fact i fight with elements ,wind ,temperature ,varnish ,paint gun
at this time the weather change instead of 34° we have 22° also the wind is more present 10 KM by Hour more
i have look at more my wood junk and if i can respray a coat to bury the hole then respray one more to finish it could be better ,but if the holes reappear it could be worst
at this time i don't know what to do cause with my gun i didn't arrive to spray more heavy coat ,i need a perfect flat surface inside to put my coat on to have a finishing coat thet i will sand and polish
i think the varnish work well cause it tend well but show me the defect well too ,i have 1mm gun size and my varnish need a 1,4 mm nozzle size maybe it is also the reason i didn't arrive to tend it better ,i have another gun with a 2mm nozzle maybe i must try it ? for this last coat ?
sparkle are cool but pain in the ass to do if you don't have spray bouth with controled temperature ,aspiration ect ..... my varnish is 2k and last time i have used it ,this trouble doesn't appear as i recover a metallics paint ,i think my sparkle is the trouble ,i let it dry fews days and think about it cause if it get better ok but worst i will make a nervous breakdown !
