Re: Gold anodized guard arrived today... Partsmaster project ahead!
i ordered some warmoth and GPR parts, and a musikraft neck (the latter won't be ready unfortunately) for a US business trip next week. I'll pick them up and bring home with me, the guard included.
Do you have guitar parts shipped from the US into Canada? isn't it expensive?

Quick update on this... all the parts are finally here!
It took a little more time to go through a standard music store to get the Fender parts, but it cut the costs a whole lot and I was in no hurry to finish this!! For example, I got the AVRI pickups with aged covers for 60$ CDN each (52$ US), final price. Going through GPR, for example, would have cost 59$ US + 10$ shipping + at least 15$ duties and taxes on this end (shipping and duties calculated for the pair). Plus, the service at that music store's always been excellent.. They always give me a bunch of extras (two correct "butterfly" string trees, pickguard screws, aged trem tip, just yesterday).
Sooooo.. The only thing missing is some stuff to finish the neck... Since Canadians can't order from ReRanch anymore, I'm looking for alternatives. I'll be asking my luthier friend for his advice... But I would have loved to try my hand at the ReRanch aerosol nitro.
I'll post pics next week, my camera's dead now.

If there's an airfield near you, there's probably an aviation supply shop on it. Most of these shops carry aerosol touch-up paint. There's brand called TEMPO that has a bunch of different colors.... in nitro! I'm not sure if TEMPO has nitro clear... but they might.
It's worth a try. Make a few calls to shops on or near small (general aviation) airports.
You could stain the neck with colonial maple (light amber/yellow) and then clearcoat it.
Edit: I just did a very quick search and found Tempo White in nitro. Check around, maybe somone has it in clear:

Check out the description... it's really nitro. I've also seen it in red (like Dakota), blue, green, yellow and black in my aviation days. $6.75 for a full (large) can... not those little half-cans!

Once again, Doug, you're the best!!!
Thanks, that's a great, great tip!! I'll be sure to make a couple of calls and I'll keep the board posted!
Edit:
Just found this link, would the first one be the right one? Description is "SPRAY CLEAR".

Soiouz, would you be able to tell me which store you ordered the AVRI pickups and covers from? I've been thinking of placing an order for those items for some time however I was reluctant to use GPR for reasons you have already described. Maybe you could call or email and find out if the clear is indeed nitro. It appears to be based on the ad, but it doesn't specify 100% sure.Just found this link, would the first one be the right one? Description is "SPRAY CLEAR".
I've known about those paints for years, but have never tried them. I'm sorry I never brought it up before now.
Let us know how it turns out!

I sure will! The only other problem I see with this is they say they can sell only to shops and pros.. I'll have to find someone willing to sell the product to an amateur without a shop!fullerplast wrote:

Check your local phone book under aviation supplies. Most airports I worked on had a shop on the field (or nearby) that carried them.
By the way... I have a U.S. FAA Aircraft & Powerplant license if that's the only way you could get it.
But for that matter... if I was buying it and sending it to you, we could just use reranch.
Try locally. That would be the best (easiest) solution by far!
You could try some furniture shops too...

Re: Gold anodized guard arrived today... Partsmaster project ahead!
The blonde partsmaster is now complete.. Only the neck remains to be finished.. I didn't have time to look for nitro yet. It'll have to wait a couple of weeks, I'm afraid.
Anyway, here are some pics of the new additon to my offset family.
I had to try the guitar even though the neck's not finished yet.
First impressions: that all parts neck is fantastic! So much so that as soon as it is correctly finished, it will go on my sunburst JM... It is much chunkier than the CIJ neck, it has a great, great feel!!
It's weird... with all the parts swapping I've been doing, in the end the partsmaster will be a proper CIJ and my main JM will be the partsmaster... But I guess it makes sense, as all the parts I changed were improvements on the CIJ.
