Re: Telerauder Project
OK, then. I uploaded the photos to Imgur. I've replaced the existing ones with urls for the Imgur ones starting with page 2. We'll see how that works. I'll go replace the page 1 photos now. Let me know if this works.
EDIT: Page 1 is done now, too. If I missed any, say which one(s) and I'll correct that.

TFG, it's a whole lot of fun to make since most of it has to be designed anew. I started this as a different idea but what really did it for me was when I held it with the neck bolted on. Now I really want to get it done.

Thanks, Jason. Thanks also for the suggestion. Glad to know the imgur account is the way to go.
Hey moderators! Maybe the how-to-make-photos-show-for-everyone posts should be split off into their own thread for easy reference in the future. You could call it the "How to make photos show for everyone" thread or something more interesting.

Re: Telerauder Project
It took a while to figure out what I want for a finish on the body. Then I had to layer it on. I settled on Wudtone Dairy Blonde with some white India Ink in it. The India Ink toned it down from bright transparent yellow to something closer to a blonde. Come to find out, the gloss finish isn't really glossy so I ended up with a semi-gloss. It looks and feels good so I'll let it settle while I make a pickguard and control plate. If I want a nice wet look, I'll need to use some other poly gloss finish. On a test piece, I put some wipe-on poly over the Wudtone and it works fine.
At any rate, here is the way it looks now. The color isn't accurate but it's close. The far left edge by the control route looks more like the whole thing does in person. This is the hardest thing I've ever tried to photo. Getting good finished pics may take some doing.

Thanks, HNB. Hopefully when it's done I can get some good-looking finished photos.
Next I need to make the pickguard and control plate. Then I can start assembly.

Nice finish . . . .
If you do use a poly finish for gloss don't use polyurethane, it yellows with age (I have a VERY nice warm yellow pine table after 10 years), polycrylic is said to be less prone to that . . . but I haven't tried it on anything for that amount of time. Alternatively consider a rubbed out coat of paste wax it may not get quite as glossy BUT it'll keep the wood feel more.

When thinking about any advice given always ask yourself "why would (s)he know more than I do".

Re: Telerauder Project
hpr_hpr, I didn't realize polyurethane would yellow with age. That really wouldn't matter much on an already yellow body. I must admit that the feel of what is on it now is quite nice and that would go away with a thick coat of poly. A rubbed out coat of paste wax is an idea, though. Right now, I'm leaning toward leaving it as is.

Re: Telerauder Project
I put some frisket film on both sides of the body to protect it while working on things.
Next step, I rough cut the pickguard and stuck it to the pattern with double stick tape.
Then cut it out on the router table with a 30° bevel on the edges except around the neck, bridge and where it will match up with the control plate. I still have to cut the slot for the switch but that can't be done until the little router attachment for the Dremel arrives. That will have to happen at some future time.

Great work! I think you nailed both the body design and the finish quite well.

Re: Telerauder Project
This is looking really good. I just looked back through the thread and now I'm thinking of copying you. I have a tele I built last year, but I just can't get on with slab bodies and I think the tele shape is kind of gross.

Re: Telerauder Project
Thanks, I did a lot of fiddling around until I found what I liked. There are color test scraps all over my work bench.
I'd be honored if you did that. It's my idea of the ultimate in shape and sound. I don't mind the look of Teles but like you, can't get past the slab-sidedness and how that feels. I have a Tele I bought years ago and it just sits in the case, unused.ThePearDream wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2018 11:29 amThis is looking really good. Have you seen the new limited edition Fender Meteora? It's another step into comfort with the Tele sound.
