Thanks!
I definitely plan to do some clips. I don't have a recording setup at the moment, so I need to figure the details out.

Thank you Ludo, I consider that high praise coming from you.

Until I get some sound clips recorded I don't have much else to say on this thread. So, I just want to share some quick previews of some possible projects to come.

My dream Jazzmaster:

I have some of the parts already, and the funds are set aside. I'm just trying to settle on what will be my perfect neck specs (fret size, thickness, etc.). Dark Metallic Green, Roasted Maple/Ebony neck, Antiquity 2 pickups

Some mods to my white Squier Jag:

a Mustang VI?:

a re-imagined Talman in Black Limba & Ebony:

Something to fill the Les Paul shaped hole in my collection, in ash (not maple):

We must think a bit alike! I've been dreaming of a Mustang VI for a long time. Technically, I've been dreaming of a Duo-Sonic VI, but that's splitting hairs ;)

Alright, so I bought a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 and have dipped my toes into the recording pool.

Please excuse my sloppy playing. When I hurt my thumb near the beginning of the project, it turned out to be a bone bruise that took months to get better. Playing guitar caused too much pain, and I've only been able to return to playing regularly in the last few weeks. Also, never having done any recording, I found it difficult to play the same thing nine times in a row without getting distracted and messing up. But, rather than be too much of a Kevin Shields about things, I'm just posting up my clips - warts and all.

I used the Ableton Software that came with the interface, with the built in Twin Reverb amp simulator and just a hint of reverb.
Pickups are in the same order for all clips. Times are listed on the links.

here is a little arpeggio bit up by the nut

Rebel Rouser

power chord thing around the middle of the neck

strummy open chord thing up by the nut

A Heart with Paper Walls by the Mermen a very slow piece with space between the notes, so you can have time to think about the character of the tone. The short scale plinkyness really comes through here.

Thanks guys.

In the pic from Tuesday, there was a mustang with a Jazzy tremolo right next to my body on the rack. It isn't mine, but I'm really pleased to see the color it received. So I thought I'd post it up as well. I'd love to see the finished guitar. This seems like it should belong to a poster here. I'll probably just have to use my imagination though.

BTW, if you get really excited about cool colors, Guitar Paint Guys, is always posting really great looking stuff on their page. I've been checking semi-daily, to see progress on mine, and have seen a ton of gorgeous stuff in that time.
Yeah, that's mine! It's a pine body that I bought from Cooterfinger a few years ago. It just sat around for a while and then I decided to send it to be painted earlier this year, It's actually supposed to arrive tomorrow, so hopefully it won't be too much longer. I still have to have the neck finished, so it might be a few weeks before I can get it together, but I'll try to post some pics. Maybe I should start a thread on it. ;D

It's funny, because I follow GuitarPaintGuys on Facebook and they posted a pic of your guitar and I recognized it from your posts here. Love that color!

I started this build thread ten months ago when I was home sick and had an extra short scale neck sitting around. I'm home sick again with another extra short scale neck. So, I'm thinking of putting another one of these together.

I still have the Faction templates. I have a one piece poplar blank on the way. I have the neck from a VM Jag, extra bridges and a pair of Surf-90 pickups that all need to find homes. I'm just missing the trem unit, plates, a few electronic parts, and some pickguard material. I'll probably do the finish myself on this one as the weather allows.

I'm thinking maybe Lake Placid Blue?

Or Shoreline Gold?

Or Ice Blue Metallic?

Leaning towards IBM at the moment. It should look nice next to it's Firemist Orange sibling.

IBM is a good Choice. I like that headstock design.
Great design overall. Great job on the orange one!!

Whoah, how did I miss this guitar being completed? Glad you bumped the thread!

I absolutely love how it turned out. The pickup cover for the bridge is what really sets it all off.

As for the surf-90 build, I like IBM the most for some reason, even though LPB is my favourite Offset colour in general.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. LPB was the first color I thought of for this, but I will wait and put that on a proper jaguar or mustang.

That IBM just seems look it would fit sooo well here

:? :? :?

I've been messing around with headstock shapes to see if I can come up with something that will be a quick mod to easily available fender style necks. If I decide to strip and refinish my neck, I may try it out on this project.

For some reason I haven't been getting any notifications for a while. I have started checking threads and found this one with the finished photos. Absolutely stunning. Great work.

Thanks Rgand. Sorry I missed your reply earlier.

I started on the body this afternoon. It needs contours and sanding still. I had to make a router sled for another project, so I used it here to thin the body down to 1-5/8". The blank was a bit hefty, so I may remove some extra material under the pickguard.

I decided to put my Squier neck back on my Squier and use my maple neck here, so I won't have to deal with stripping a neck or putting on another decal.

Here's a fresh rendering and a real life example:

I really like that blue with the white pickguard. It's going to be really beautiful. I have an undercutting bit I've been tempted to use to remove weight around cavities. I haven't done it yet but may if the need arises. I'm with you on a 1 5/8" thick body. Unless there's something like a bridge that needs the depth, like on my roadhouse build, that's my choice.
