I have always thought these Roadstar pickup rings looked cool. I think its so ugly that it works. Maybe a black or cream one if you could find one.

I think this is a much cleaner-looking way to go:

What really work on that guitar are those Ricky horns!
The cheapest rings I could find are cream. Cream looks really good against the color, but I have a brushed metal theme established with this build.

It doesn't exactly have a figured top, but I'm with you on the cleanliness of it. There's obviously nothing to cover up with a guard here, and heaven forbid the finish happens to get scratched by a plectrum, right?

I think it'd look way better on the beat up MJT body than a figured top...I've always associated figured tops and pickup rings with "super strats" and cheesy guitar instrumentals, perhaps unfairly. But I agree with the former poster that mentioned that telemasters look way better with no guard because the body becomes a bit more balanced-looking.

It really is improved without the guard. I've always disliked telemasters for the visual imbalance, and that really solves the issue. As for pickup rings, I agree with the idea that a cream one would look pretty great against the blue, but it'll again need balance, so cream knobs would be indicated.
This is an excellent rectangle

Whoa! That Tele from when you were younger is rough looking :jacked: To be fair, I wouldn't have known how to do the contours properly at that age either. Haha. Neat project though! I love Navy Blue on guitars!
Within the realm of possibility is salvaging what's left of that body for an odd one-off, someday...

...maybe.

I don't think it's a bad idea to just leave the neck pickup cavity open, I have one like that but I don't think it even has shielding in the cavity. If the copper stands out too much you could paint it flat black to match the flatwork, or silver to match the cover, or just trim the copper back a ways from the edge.
All pain and troubles melted away like lemon drops beyond the contrails across the sky.

I'm in the same band with @nickjames and he decided to lend me the guitar. I've done a bunch of mods to it and I will post pics shortly.

Welp, I approve.

Did you do the headstock too? I'd love to see more.

Never seen a Jag pickup in the neck position of a tele(/master). Cool!

The two pickups pair fairly well. The neck pickup is a avri 62 neck and the bridge pickup is a Yosemite tele bridge at 6.3k ohm and 7.9k ohm respectively.
