My Vertigomaster
I bought a Fernandes Vertigo for a good price locally and while I love the shape of the guitar the finish was too 80ies Metal for my liking
I had a jazzmasterized version in mind so I started trying out some ideas for a pickguard
Here's the first mockup with some parts
had to wait until it was warm enough outside to spray to get started with the project
First enlarging the pickup cavities - I know a Dremel is not the ideal tool for that but it worked ok I guess
Doweled the Stoptail Posts and sanded that area flat
Doweled the Jack Output hole
Sanded the whole body with 180 grit so the primer had something to stick to
So here we go with spraying the primer:
While that was drying I tried making a pickguard by myself with the dremel :
Then sprayed the colour coat with DupliColor Silver Metallic
First try with the matching headstock and roughly cut pickguard :
Two weeks later I assembled everything, sanded the pickguard by hand (the bevelled edge was a bit flimsy) and went for a Bigsby Trem together with a Zero Fret Nut - works really well and the guitar now really looks gorgeous :
Couple of screwholes became a bit too big while getting them to countersink - and I'm not 100% happy with the lower horn'S edge ... so maybe I'll try and make another pickguard
But overall I really like the outcome !

I think that looks incredibly nice, leaps and bounds better than the original for sure. Good job!

Okay.
I'll admit. I cringed, when I saw that first pic. And groaned... and maybe rolled my eyes...
But wow! I wasn't expecting THAT! What a transformation!
Nice work! Props for seeing the potential in that

Very nice work.
When thinking about any advice given always ask yourself "why would (s)he know more than I do".

Always loved the vertigo shape, not so much the colors and pg. This totally takes it to a whole new level! Awesome work!

Re: My Vertigomaster
When I saw the first pic I didn't think it was salvageable at all but damn that's an amazing transformation.
Come to think of it I think that's actually gumby's guitar
