Roadhouse Build thread
After considerable re-working of the Telerauder design, I now have patterns that fit the case I bought. I have a beautiful piece of mahogany for the next guitar and have started on that.
After moving the cardboard template all over both sides of it, trying different angles and such, I found a way to best take advantage of the wonderful grain pattern in it. As you can see, it's the same look as the Telerauder but it is not the same at all. I just massaged the patterns to keep the main characteristics looking the same.
I'm still working over my router table to have a chip removal vacuum system so I can work without quite so much mess. As soon as that is done, I'll get the body routed. Right now the shape is roughed in and waiting with the first pattern screwed to it.
Here's the design drawing of how it will look. Of course, things will vary slightly in the actual build but it will be close to this unless I change my mind about the color. Even if I change the color, I want to take advantage of the grain, which isn't included in the drawing.

This will be very cool. What's the plan for the tele trem bridge?

I love how the grain follows the contours of the body.

Thanks, all.
The bridge is a Trem King. They offer three models, I'll be using the TKS-2. The bridge is a hardtail bridge in that it mounts solid on the body. The vibrato works by the moving the tone block to increase or decrease string tension. it should have outstanding tone transfer between body and strings.ThePearDream wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 9:55 amThis will be very cool. What is the purpose of routing out the wood completely where the neck pocket out have been? Never seen that before. Curious to see what you are doing there.
It looks like it is going to end up being a fine looking instrument, I will be watching the progress.

I suppose it could look similar.
The photo of the template also has the pickguard template laid on it. I left the neck pocket area on that just for placement within the outline. That won't get routed out like that.
Thanks, I'll post as things come along.

Ahhh! An optical illusion, my eyes locked onto it as a cutout body sitting on top of cardboard, that makes much more sense, clears up your post a bit as well. It is to hot to think.
I can no longer see even a hint of what I saw before, funny how the brain can process information sometimes.

Re: Roadhouse Build thread
I just realized that I hadn't updated for a while. I got the neck ready with a newly cut headstock and steel neck screw inserts. Still working on the body. I got sidetracked making improvements and repairs on my bandsaw (the switch gave up and i had to install a new one, updated to a grounded safety switch), air compressor and router table. Anyway, here's the neck.
This photo isn't the same neck but it shows the same type of inserts I used.

Re: Roadhouse Build thread
I've been making improvements my bandsaw and router table, amongst other tools. Still I managed to make a bunch of templates and get some work done so here's a quick update.
So far I have all the routing done except for the roundovers and comfort contours. The spring cavity ended up a slight bit shallow due to the depth of the pickup cavities but I should be able to make the springs work in the .680" I have to work with.
