Fralin Noiseless

Post by j mascis » Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:27 pm

Hey all.
How are the Hum-Cancelling Jazzmaster pickups with the AlNiCo magnets?
What about the Hum-Cancelling Steel-Poled Jazzmaster pickups?
Anyone compare the two?

Playing a lot of clean material and wondering how the noiseless sound (e.g. too sterile, etc) in that situation.

Also, do these need routing? On the website it says some people say they do. Would they need routing on an American made spec body or an AVRI guitar?

Thanks

i use a set of the noiseless steel-poled jazzmaster pickups. they're certainly larger than standard JM pickups, but i had no issue fitting them into my MJT body, and still had to use foam to boost the pickups up to proper height. i love the sound of the pickups. they're definitely P90s at heart, but they don't have as cutting of a midrange that many P90s tend to have -- Lindy definitely keeps a bit of that JM charm in his pickups. i haven't tried the standard noiseless jazzmaster pickups, but i'd probably guess that those would be a better fit for you if you do a lot of clean playing. i feel like P90s really shine when you're pushing them with distortion or fuzz,
