Staytrem no longer shipping outside UK

It's already been mentioned that Staytrem's website is temporarily offline, but this was news to me:

"... we will be reducing production and will have very limited stock. For this reason we will no longer be shipping world wide and will only be accepting orders from UK buyers."

Fuck!

Fuck indeed. I'll just have to ask nicely from someone in the UK to order one for me. That's the only bridge I was really a fan of.

Welcome to the world ! Which seems to get smaller by the day. CITES, Trump trade wars. So many sellers in the US are CONUS-only ... which is why there is raft of companies in the US that give you a US shipping address and then forward ship to your home country. Presumably the same thing exists in the UK ?

Perhaps it's also time we properly reverse-engineered the Staytrem ... if they don't want the business. What do we have ... nylon bushings on the end of the bridge posts, nylon washers on the intonation screws in lieu of springs, 52mm E-E spacing, Mustang-style saddles (with offset intonation screws), etc. What are the key attributes?

Or maybe they are just preparing for the post-Brexit times when, from the looks of things right now, nothing will go in or out anyway. Sad days for Europe, nothing less than catastrophic for UK.

This was my thought as well. John always seemed like a stand-up guy, and always seemed to enjoy the business. I imagine he's made a ton of money from worldwide sales where your only few options are an expensive Mastery, the factory standard JM bridge, the factory standard Mustang bridge, or TOM bridges.

Weird. I just ordered a bridge and tremolo last week with no problems. Sad to hear about this but glad I got my order in time

When I bought a Bass VI bridge a couple of weeks ago it was £70. I think the Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge was a couple of pounds cheaper (they were £65 when I bought one back in 2013).

The tremolo upgrade was £30 back in 2013. Suspect it would have gone up a bit since then.

Cool, that makes the last Staytrem I bought an investment rather than just wasted money.

Jokes aside, that's pretty sad. I never tried a Mastery, but I have a hard time imagining a bridge I'd rather want on my offsets.

That's really a pity. A few days ago the first Staytrem Bridge showed up nationally in ages... but it was the wrong radius for my needs...

I already see someone here of the OSG people in the UK becoming the new middle man... any volunteers?

Thanks. I bought my Staytrem stuff (2 bridges and 2 trem arms) in the early days and no idea what I paid for it (switched email account too). Good to have a reference if something pops up 2nd hand (I'd need another arm).

I got my trem in 2016 for the same price. He even gold plated it, even though it wasn't an official option anymore. Such a great upgrade.

While there are a few of us here in the UK who probably wouldn't mind acting as conduits for Staytrem gear, you should all be aware that it's likely that anything coming from the UK after Brexit may be well be flagged by customs worldwide.

It's looking increasingly likely* that the UK will leave the EU free trade zone next March without having made comprehensive international trading arrangements in advance; the result of this will mean UK exports will be handled with WTO 'third country' status, meaning higher tarriffs than international buyers have become accustomed to, translating into sharp price increases for all manner of UK-exported goods. Basically, the Staytrem bridge might cost as much as, or even more than, the Mastery if you live in the USA, probably making them a less appealing prospect for many.

Customs officials worldwide will doubtless be well aware of this side-effect of Brexit, and packages hailing from the UK may well be under more scrutiny than usual as a result.

I know. It's fucked-up. 52% of those who were exercised enough to vote one day a couple of years ago have fucked up Staytrem's worldwide market and may even end up being responsible for Staytrem's ultimate demise. Thanks a lot, you lot. :( :fp: >:(

* and by "increasingly likely", I actually mean "more or less certain".

Unpleasant scenario (or tip, however you like to take it): vulture assholes in the UK hoarding as much of the limited supply as they can get their hands on and then selling it on ebay for twice the money.

Not so unpleasant scenario: the owner has licensed the manufacturing to someone else, maybe even Fender - and why not, really, if they have already co-operated on some Fender models. ( Was it Marr Jag, or TVL JM, or both, or was it just speculation?)
