Also, the IBM JDR is close to assembly:

This looks great, but I have a very serious question...

Where will it be located on your color wheel when it's done?!?

We just something slightly more advanced

This is a tint of blue, so I would stack it on top of the mustang

Someday I'll figure out how to store my guitars using the Munsell color system

Since it's a greyed out blue, closer to neutral grey than blue, just use it as a placeholder for violet. :D

It would look good clockwise from the Mustang too, but I like that. Also, that Munsell system is super cool!

More progress on the mahogany body. It is sanded to 120 and the grain has been raised with water to ready it for the final sanding. I may do a contour on the heel, but haven't decided yet. I will need to do some metal work (control plate) soon, but am in no hurry at the moment. This Honduran Mahogany was a pleasure to work with and I'm beyond pleased with how this $40 blemished blank has come out.

That looks really good. I found mahogany easy to work with although I did get some nasty splinters from it.

That is a gorgeous Mahogany body! The grain is really classic looking.

This one is just about wrapped up:
Image

I still need to install the strap buttons, do final shaping on the nut, and the rhythm plate screw hole nearest the neck doesn't have any wood underneath it, so I'll need to address that. But it plays great and weighs a svelte 7.75 lbs (3.5kg). Better pics soon.

Also, the plane restoration is done.
1907-1909 Stanley Bailey No.5 1/2 bench plane. New walnut tote and handle and new Hock blade and chip breaker.

I wish I'd taken a before photo. It looked a bit like this though:

The Jag looks great! I like it without the switch plate in the PG. Nice and balanced.

The Stanley is pretty nice, too. I have one just about like that one that was my grandfather's and then my father's. Now I'll have to dig it out and see if it's the same model. Those things can really move some wood.

Man, that IBM with the white pickguard, surf 90's and chrome just looks perfect. Great job.

Thanks for the kind words folks!

So, this is happening:
Image

When I bought the body blank for the IBM Jagstang, I had also bought a neck blank.
A few weeks back I finally decided that it was time to try making a neck. This will be going on the Mahogany body. I have a pre-slotted, pre-radiused rosewood board on the way from LMII. I'm excited about the possibilities that being able to make a neck will open up for me.

Also, I stumbled onto a new laser cutting service that has really reasonable rates. When I was looking into getting the control plate for my Fuschia Sparkle build laser cut from metal, I couldn't seem to find anywhere to do it for under $100ish. But, I just got the plate for the mahogany body cut from polished stainless steel for $35 including shipping.

Image

This new laser cutting option got my brain turning and I decided to do my own take on something that Amon 7.L and Horsefeather have been exploring: a custom trem plate to use Jag/Jazz trem guts on a mustang. Here is a mockup on my Mustang body:

Image

My version is slightly longer, as I wanted to maintain the wood around the thimble holes and use the rear curve of the Jazzy trem. Also, I figured that since you would have to make a permanent mod to the body, there is no reason it would have to fit the same footprint. Not wanting to take any of my guitars apart, I have a Jazz trem on the way so I can verify hole placement, dimensions, etc. before getting it laser cut. I'm planning to install the prototype on my reissue Talman that currently has a mustang trem - after it gets refinished.

Speaking of the Mustang, since my custom decal seems to be lost I bought Fender and Fernandes repro decals and applied bits from both so I can finally get this thing moving towards the end. I just need to spray a few more clear coats and let it sit for a few weeks now. If the custom decal ever appears, I'll just use it on something else.

That looks good. Did the laser cutting shop also polish the plate?

I believe that the sheet it was cut from was pre-polished. Of course, after easing the edge to make it less sharp, and countersinking the screw holes, I will need to touch it up a bit.

I forgot to mention that I ordered it last Sunday, it shipped on Monday and arrived on Thursday. Here's the site:
