Olympic White Jazzmaster Project Done Pg. 3!

Post by HNB » Sun May 12, 2019 7:41 pm

You might remember... my OLY Jazzy I had with the mint guard and Antiquity II pickups.... I miss it. I looked online and Japanese Jazzys have gone crazy price wise. I figure if I am going to spend that much, I would rather build it from parts to get it exactly how I want it.

I ordered an Allparts neck. Figure that should get me close to the Japanese neck it had. I will do the Antiquity II pickups again. I listened to the audio samples here and still like those a lot. The Novak ones are really good sounding to me also. I like that the bridge isn't too shrill and the neck isn't too bassy.

Body wise I just ordered an MJT body to be finished. I asked them for alder and sent them these pictures for wear. I told them I want it OLY (not custard) with a arctic white base color so the oly wears through to brighter white.

I am going to try my hand at aging the neck with my dies and such. No nasty beating or anything like that. LOL Just subtile color changes hopefully.

Allparts neck came in. I tinted it. Next I am going to wipe on some oak stain on the back of the neck to hopefully make it looks a little more brown where you would play. (NOT SUPER FAKEY BROWN.) Hopefully it works. ;)

I wiped on some oak minwax stain over the vintage amber dye and it looks amazing. WAY better than I thought it would. Here are pics.

LOL Maybe.

I used some ebony stain just on the back of the neck to dirty it a bit more than the rest of the neck. (Since it is where hands touch the most.) I am really happy with how it looks.

super cool, Chris.

did you ask MJT to try and match the checking? I have a white '66 Mustang that has this same, weird 70's airbrushed van pattern all over it. I love it.
Can't wait to see this one together.
(Christopher, also)
I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

Yeah I asked them to try to match the wear and checking of that body but less yellow in color. :)

Dude, the ageing on that Jazzmaster is crazy good. This build will be exciting to see!

I've always dug the idea of building something to desire/spec, but then the resale value just falls through; so that's always stopped me from buying anything but genuine Fender.

Pickups are jazzmaster size Picasso humbuckers. I was able to get them custom wound. Neck is a little over 8k and bridge is almost 15k. They are alnico 5. The hotter pickups I like are usually that so I think they will work fine for me.
