Talk about heavy relic. You'll have a great story to go with that guitar when it's completed. I love these threads!

Definitely the most logical scenario... damage to the neck or headstock somewhere!

According to the website The Who Dot Net:
27 May 1967, Grand Marquee, Oxford, with Fender Jazzmaster, vibrato bar removed. After this gig, the Jazzmaster was stolen.

Isn't that a young Donald Trump, up front and to the left?

He only goes to the UK to build golf courses and whinge about windmills.

Latest updates: I have sanded, and sanded and sanded some more... even sanded a little bit of a divot into the back of the body trying to blend the seam. Not too bad, but I think it will be obvious when the final coat is applied and the light hits it just right. Anyhow.. I finally got it about as smooth as it could be, then followed with sanding sealer. Sanded the sealer smooth, and applied 2 coats of primer.

I went ahead and took some pictures to post because, while I plan on putting 2 more coats of primer, I don't think a point and shoot camera will pick up the nuanced differences.

So here it is in it's current state:

Freaking great - odd request, do you have the DC measurement of the orig. stacked humbuckers by chance?

This is so cool that I'm sad I don't have a smashed up jazzmaster to resurrect.

Thanks! And, about the resistance of the pickups, since I never removed them from the pickguard assembly, I measured from the jack, using the switch and pots to dial in each pickup. I found the neck to have 13.3kΩ, the bridge to have 15.5kΩ, and combined 7.2kΩ.
