How did these look? I saw some on eBay recently, and was intrigued by them, but the mock up image the seller put up, made them look like they didn't cover over the nut.
I don't know - I've not got the body yet!

Ah, ok. Look forward to seeing the results.
Me too! :)

Progress update...

I *think* I've sourced all the parts for this build.

I picked up a s/h AVRI trem, Staytrem bridge, and this gold anodised scratchplate with complete wiring harness:

I also bought new some Gotoh SD91MG tuners, a Fender neckplate & strap buttons, and an AVRI bridge (so I can compare to the Staytrem).

The trouble is, I'm away for three weeks and the parts haven't arrived yet!

Ah well, I shall look forward to putting it together when I get back.

I have a few more parts - I ordered from Darren Riley and had them delivered to a colleague in the US, who brought them to Tokyo for me.

Hopefully, i should have everything I need to put this baby together when I get home.

Finally, an update!

I decided I didn't trust myself to fit all the hardware without messing things up, so I took everything to my local guitar tech.

Here's what I got back:

Image

Overall, it's a top job. I'm really pleased with how it feels and sounds.

Still got a few bits to fix up:
  • The pots on the pre-wired scratch plate had been used with knobs with a grub screw and the split shaft nipped together. The shaft on the volume pot snapped when trying to open up the split, so I'll need to take the scratch plate off and fit another one.
  • The tone wheel in the rhythm circuit seems to act as a volume control, so I'll check that wiring when I have the scratch plate off.
I'm still not sold on the gold scratch plate - I may try and source an aged-looking W/B/W.

First gig tomorrow!

Hi,
I think that design of the rythm tone wiring makes the tone pot to act as a volume pot. It is not a standard voltage divider wiring.... the pickup goes directly to the entrance of the tone pot, and then the sweeper of the tone pot goes to the entrance of volume pot. It's somehow weird, and I still have to figure why did Fender designed this rythm wiring like this. :'(

Here are a couple more photos (taken under artificial light, at night, so not the greatest):

I went with the Staytrem bridge to start with (I also have an AVRI bridge, with or without Graphtech saddles to try, should I feel the urge).

I really like the tuners - I went with Gotoh SD91MG 6-in-line Nickel Locking Vintage Tuners TK-0779-001.

I love the pickups - they sound fantastic.

All-in-all, I'm a happy bunny :)

Fantastic looking guitar. I'm preparing to follow in your footsteps and start my own build. If anyone has any pearls of wisdom / cautionary tales to share, I'd love to hear them on my build planning thread:
