I'd vote several times for that Willow Green, especially with a cream guard.

This colour reminds me of one of the epic builds of fellow member theworkoffire : the Motorik II:
Whatever you're gonna go for this finish or not, I'm confident that your taste won't leave any of us disappointed.

I'm thinking that direction but time will tell. Don't want to rush into these things.
Thanks, that is a beautiful finish.

I vote for the updated dark blue color. Dark blue is sadly underused on guitars and the particular shade in your rendering looks really tasteful with the cream guard and roasted maple.

Thanks for the input. I also like a medium dusty blue, although it isn't as nice a contrast for the cream. The actual color will be chosen the day I go into the paint shop to get it mixed. It will be something that works well with the cream PG. Another color that would work is maroon but I already have enough reds.ThePearDream wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 8:32 amI vote for the updated dark blue color. Re: Bobber - A Bit Different
Today I flat-sanded the plugged holes and covered the body with Firsket film again. Then I diddled around with counter sinking washers to mount the neck. I had wanted to cut a roundover around the whole neck mounting area but that didn't look like a good solution for this body because the screw holes were a bit close to the edge for that. Instead, I roughed in a neck contour. It has almost a quarter inch of taper to the plate. At the holes the taper is .215". With the plate in place and screws dropped into the holes, everything looks good. The screws will need to get shortened considerably.

Re: Bobber - A Bit Different
Today I started on the pickguard. Many necks have a fretboard extension that only has room underneath for a pickguard so I made a neck heel shaped block to let me put patterns on to check things. The body has a Tele neck pocket and it will get a Strat heeled neck. The pickguard will cover the gaps.
Then I cut out a very rough cardboard PG shape. It is close but definitely not right on.
The 1/4" MDF pattern is roughed in, ready to be shaped with the spindle sander. The cutout for the bridge will get done after the rest of the pattern is done.

Re: Bobber - A Bit Different
Got the PG pattern done except there wasn't enough room for one of the mounting screws. That meant adjusting the PG pattern.
That meant making a whole new pattern for the control plate. I had an old (not used) pattern for another guitar lying around so I modified that. It worked out fine, other than the holes for the controls being slightly in the wrong place.
A pencil through the holes shows that although they're close, they need to move. The pencil line on the body shows where the plate will be.
Test fit with the neck.
The next step will be to locate the bridge plate and then cut the PG pattern around that.

This would be a good shape to do as headless a la Klein.

You know, you're right. I'll have to think about that. Maybe on a future version.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:28 pmThis would be a good shape to do as headless a la Klein.

The bridge is mounted. Now I can make the pickguard and control plate.

Re: Bobber - A Bit Different
The pickguard is done except for drilling the mounting holes out and counter sinking them. After mounting the hardware and checking for fit, it seems I have to drill out under the pickup screws because they hit the bottom of the cavity. The PG is cream/black/cream. I beveled the edges at a 45 degree angle to show more of the center layer.

Neat!
It's coming along pretty good.
I love them switch'n'switches too. It's definitely going to have a huge array of sound palette.

Thanks. Those little switches are simple push on/push off switches I intend to use for coil splits on the pickups. I haven't done coil splits before. It'll be fun to try.
