Humbuckers, 2 or 4 wire?

Hey everyone im building my own version of the Jag CP HH and im having a guy wire a pickup for me. Only question i have is do i need a 4 or two wire to have all the roller knobs and stuff working as stock?

You need 4 wires for the "dial-a-tap" function of the rollers to work like a CP HH Jaguar.

Also on humbuckers, you particularly want to avoid 2-wire HBs that have a single conductor and a bare (worst case) or insulated braided shield (tied to the cover/base and the end of the coil).

If you ever need to flip phase, that becomes problematic. You might want the out-of-phase sound or just want to use the pickup normally (in-phase) with another pickup that happens to be wired with the opposite winding direction (eg mixing pickups from particular manufacturers). Then you'd need to do delicate internal surgery on the pickup to separate the wires necessary for that - ie separate the shield from the coil and cover / metal base. If you have 4-conductors and a separate shield (or 2 conductors and a separate shield), you don't need to do that.
