Surf's Up! DuoSonic Parts Guitar Project.
I saw this body on ebay for $99 bucks and I couldn't pass it up. I figured I could make a pickguard and load it with the mustang set of Q pickups I bought off ebay. Btw, these pickups sound beautiful and they were like $80 for the set.
I had a nice neck but the heel was too wide and I didn't want to mod the neck pocket and risk screwing up the paint. Luckily I wound up doing some guitar work for a member who had a couple of these necks and he was nice enough to trade me one
for the work. HBN helped me figure out my wiring woes and I couldn't be more happy with how it plays and sounds.

That looks real sharp. I've decided recently that I like the Duo-Sonic body style better than the Mustang style.

Always loved how straightforward a good DuoSonic was.

Nice acquisition!
Are you tempted to drop in some lipstick pickups and turn that into a raging jangle-beast?

Ah! Nice Duo-Sonic!!!
I am also interested in those Q Pickups.
You said already they sound beautiful.
Do you have a comparison to original ´65 Mustang pickups?
Do you know the kOhm of those Q PU´s?

Thanks guys.
I checked them when they came in but I can't remember the kOhms I think these were the slightly hotter than vintage set. They're bright (which I love) and have clean bell tones. Not everybody likes bright tones but I really dig these.supersonicjazzmaster wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 11:23 pmAh! Nice Duo-Sonic!!!

Thanks for fast reply.
Sounds good with those Q PU´s.
Would you desribe it even as a modern sound?

... aren't they exactly the same shape? The only difference is the tremolo vs. no tremolo and the pickguard shape/switching options. The bodies are the same though.Horsefeather wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 2:37 pmThat looks real sharp. I've decided recently that I like the Duo-Sonic body style better than the Mustang style.

Nope. Very close, but the Duo-Sonic is an almost straight waist.adamrobertt wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 10:33 am... aren't they exactly the same shape? The only difference is the tremolo vs. no tremolo and the pickguard shape/switching options. The bodies are the same though.
EDIT: this picture speaks better than I do.

Honestly I visually can't tell the difference unless that red line is there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That right side kink in the Mustang version is just too low for my eye. It makes it look broken and leaning.
Another thing I don't like, which is true of all of them but applies more to the Duo-Sonic, is that the right and left side main convex curves don't match. The left side, where your arm rests across, has a slight bump to it whereas the right side is more of a continuous curve. It's subtle but once you notice it, it tends to irk. I think everything south of the bridge should be perfectly symmetrical on these.

Re: Surf's Up! DuoSonic Parts Guitar Project.
The Offset/Mustang shape is too burned into my brain as being automatically ‘good’ for me to judge it. Loved it from an early age. The non-offset Duo Sonic shape always looked off to me.
King Buzzo: I love when people come up to me and say “Your guitar sound was better on Stoner Witch, when you used a Les Paul. “...I used a Fender Mustang reissue on that, dumbass!
