Once more, into the Jazzblaster realm...now just a regular JM.
I finally decided to built my dream guitar... again. (my dream keeps changing, haha)
Due to a being a lefty, i'll never able to get the feature set from a fender model without doing a Custom Shop build.
So here's what i've settled on:
- Musikraft Dots and Binding Jazzmaster Neck (White binding w/ imitation clay dots)
- Vintage Tint neck finishing by Marty Bell
- MJT Ice Blue Metallic Jazzmaster body (Closet Clean)
- Fender Hardware (vintage tuners, vibrato, bridge, etc)
- Novak OR Creamery Wide Range Humbuckers (jazzmaster-sized)
I've always wanted a dots and binding neck and i think the IBM w/ white pickguard will look really nice.

Around $440 for the pickup set! I would love to try real wide range Humbuckers, but they cost too much. I use JB and Jazz (Seymour Duncan) set as they are Alnico V magnets, maintain a lot of clarity, let me cook split, and are affordable.

I like the JB Jazz set also but don't sound quite like a WRHB.

The IBM should look great. Do you prefer the JM form factor pickups over the WRHB?

Well even now I’m starting to think about a different pairing of pickups. I’m sold on Novaks because I absolutely love my JM-90/JM-V combo in my current black Jazzmaster.
I think the JM-FAT, JM-V or even a JM-TL, JM-HC combo??

What was the reason for wanting JM-WR pickups in the first place?
FWIW I tried them as a curiosity and did not like them at all. Turned a thoroughly amazing CIJ Jazzmaster into an incredibly generic sounding guitar.

the look? haha, well, i've actually heard them sound really good in many bands that i enjoy, but i have tried them before, and didn't care for them.
What i REALLY want is something that compliments my other Jazzmaster with the JM-90 and JM-V combo.
So humbuckers or something similar feel like the best option??

I had that pairing (JM-V + JM-T) for quite a while too.
Better in every possible way than the pair of JM-WR for my purposes.

Re: Once more, into the Jazzblaster realm...
I have JM sized Novak WRHB's in an AV65 and I absolutely love those pickups. I have used that jazzmaster for recording more than any other guitar in the last five years. It does not sound like a Jazzmaster, but it also does not have that mid-hammer sort of thing that most humbuckers have. But I get the "uninteresting" part. They are very neutral. Balanced lows, mids, highs. I too would love to build or mod an existing JM to a proper Jazzblaster someday.

I ended up ordering a JM-T Bridge and JM-V Neck from Novak!

Don't I own that JM-T of yours now? But i think i got it from you with a Duncan neck pickup and not a JM-V.
Anyway, I agree completely that they sound way better than the WR, to me. I think you made a solid choice, OP.

Yep that's right, there was quite a bit of gear going back/forth between myself and Canadian OSG-ers for a couple of years there
I ended up with 'spare' pickups after offloading that CIJ JM (probably the only bit of gear I regret selling) and finding myself very happy with Timbo's 'woody' set in the HotPink-master.

I guess yours won’t really be a jazzblaster anymore, but here’s mine in IBM:
