The trouble is, as you make one you come up with other design ideas that you just have to try. When I finished my first one, I had three more in the planning stages. :D

That's awesome. I'm trying to find a CAR paint kit and can't find anything. I saw the Northwest kit, which brought me to this thread, but they won't ship to the US. Anyone know of a similar quality kit or a way to get this kit in the US?

Thanks!

Anyone?

Would anyone be willing to buy this for me from the UK and then ship it to the US if I pay all the fees? Really want to do CAR and can't find any kits like this in the US.

Gorgeous JM.

I bet there is a duplicolor paint that will do the trick of this metallic red.

Anybody know of one? I can't find anything in the US via Google. Seems really strange this isn't a product.

That won't work. Aerosol spray packs are classified as dangerous goods and can't easily be shipped internationally.

Was about to suggest Reranch but they seem to be closed for orders.

You could try asking Gracey's Vintage Finishes if they're able to provide a translucent red along with inca silver? There isn't one listed though.

Though to be frank I don't think I'd attempt a CAR finish as a do it myself project without a HVLP spray gun/compressor and some kind of well sealed booth (even if home made) available. And two or three successful/professional looking paint jobs completed prior.

I'd probably send the body in question out to a known quality refinisher and save the hassle.

Candy colors are usually two component colors, silver or gold as a "base" and a translucent color on top - the idea is that the light passes through the top color, for example red, bounces of gold/silver and passes one more time through red, and this is what gives that color such a depth; it is not a simple mix of different colors. Silver is used for colder, brighter shades, and gold is used for warmer and darker shades. There are limitless possibilities of course, the base color can be with more or less metallic effect, may range from copper color to almost white to dark grey, of course "original" candy apple red has exact code and RGB value.
