Can a Bigsby go on This?

Post by Unicorn Warrior » Tue Jan 21, 2020 7:05 pm

The newer duo Sonics...is there an easy solution to slapping a bigsby on one of these?

I can't remember if it's a Vibramate or something from another brand, but I remember one company had no-mod mounting plate that you attached a Bigsby to, and which attached to the body via the butt-end strap hook hole. I just checked the Vibramate site, and it doesn't look like they make one that would fit a Duo-Sonic, but I can't imagine that someone doesn't make something like that...

No shame in drilling holes in a $350 guitar.

Mastery M9.1 or M7.1 (or Callaham equivalent) plus Bigsby B5?

This maybe?

Or this too, potentially?

I'm sure it would require a bit of measuring to make sure either would work.

I think the vibramate you're thinking of us the Vibramate V5-TEAS AT Shorty Mounting Kit:

Stetsbar has a drop-in trem for hardtail Strat style bridges. No experience with them though.

EDIT: on the Stetsbar website you can download a 1:1 pdf to check compatibility.

I have a stetsbar on my Les Paul. I love it, but it isn't subtle. it's range is somewhere between a standard strat and Floyd rose, but holds tune much better when bending. if you can find a good deal on one, it's worth it to try.

I'd go calaham bridge all the way. That or the mastery and then file down the bottom lip and then add the bigsby.

I had a telecaster with a bigsby using this exact principle and it worked awesome.

I don't know if it's worth the trouble though. Look I love duo sonics. Have owned quite a few over the years, but some guitars are just better as hard tails.

You might be able to save some bucks by buying a generic short Telecaster bridge and filing notches for the strings to pass through, I think if you can't get enough break angle over the bridge from the bigsby you could shim the neck.
Like what this person did:

Looks like Wilkinson short tele bridges are like 18 bucks. Spending 100-200 on a bridge for a 300 dollar guitar seems kinda nutty.

With the Callaham bridge, I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as there's room for it to mount on. This is a Callaham bridge with a B-5. The B-5 has the Callaham style main shaft for ease of stringing and the Callaham front roller to give it more break angle. The bridge has Callaham saddles for Bigsby. The neck has no shims to make it work, either.

Nice. I’m trying to think of ideas for a new project this year. Is there a particular model of that bridge?

Thanks. I'm always happy to help someone spend money. :D

It's the Callaham American Standard Hardtail Bridge with Bigsby Relief Cut and Stainless Steel Enhanced Compensated Bigsby Saddles.
