Any Bass VI options left?

Post by jason.weaver » Fri Jun 19, 2020 5:08 pm

Now that I’m finally in a place financially to do a Bass VI build, it seems that nobody is making bodies and necks anymore — including Musikraft and USAGC.

Does anyone know of someone willing to make a quality body and neck for a Bass VI?

Hi - I just received a pre-Covid ordered Reverse Bass VI and neck specific to their neck pocket from Warmoth. Have ordered many necks and a few bodies from them, have been pleased so far. Really like their roasted flame maple no finish necks.

Im new here - from Maine.

Man, I was in the same boat a couple a year or so ago... I found a guy on our forum who built me one, but he's temporarily not doing builds. It's so perfect. Lake Placid Blue Bass VI.

I know your pain to be on the hunt for something customized and above the notch of anything available.

There's a guy on here called Cross Guitars, shoot him a PM he's a very talented guy. He's done some great work for people on this forum:

Unfortunately, he is not interested in making a body and neck for me. So I am still looking. Please help!

This is the post I came here to write, but thought I should search for first. We’ve lost a LOT of good body/neck suppliers recently for our non-Strat/Tele needs.

(Warmoth burned me on a pick guard when I was a broke college kid and we’re complete dicks about it, and I’ll chew off my own fingers before I give them a dime ever again)

Warmoth's components don't play well with other parts. Their bodies, guards, etc are all really designed for their own Warmoth stuff. Their necks are good - but I'd steer clear from their bodies, pickguards, etc.

Sorry they burned you.

In fairness, they do warn that their pickguards are only meant for their bodies. It's always been a disclaimer on their site. Inconvenient, but clearly disclosed.

In 2003, they didn’t disclose it. A good buddy had just passed, I bought a tort guard like we’d always joked to make my Mustang match his Jag, and holes were off by 1/8” everywhere. They said it should match on the phone, and when it didn’t just said “GUESS IT SUCKS 2 B U, JERK BYEEEEEE”

Since then I’ve just pretended they burned down as far as I’m concerned.

Pit Bull sells a bass VI kit I’ve been considering for a 2nd one to have around. It’s under $200
