Those GFS pickups aren't really boutique. I believe they're made in a factory in china...

Eh. Whatever. They're cheap and will do what I want. Then I'll just save up for Novak Jag pups.StevenO wrote: Those GFS pickups aren't really boutique. I believe they're made in a factory in china...
I really need to know what to get for the screws still. It's the only thing I need to know before ordering.
Also, something that just occurred to me - If I install the pickups myself, will I void the warranty on the guitar all together? I know Fender won't replace pickups/electronics if I modify them (and I wouldn't expect them to), but will the guitar still be under warranty for other things like neck warping/cracking or body damage?

the fender AV pups come with covers and claw tho, then ya just need a PG.-Anti- wrote:And those don't come with covers the claws or a pickguard.-2N3904- wrote:where in hell are you getting your prices from dude, your way over estimating the cost of pups.-Anti- wrote: ^Because Seymour Duncans would end up being around $200 if I go with the SJAG-1's, and $250+ for antiquities.
Aside from that, I'm basically just paying more for a Strat pickup that's labeled differently.
Can anyone tell me what kind of screws I need to mount the new pickups? Will the Jazzmaster Pickup Screws at guitarpartsresource.com work?
http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/scre ... genfen.htm
GPR has SD sjag1's for $58 each totaling $116 for a pair.
ive bought tons of stuff from GPR and never had a problem with them.they ship world wide for cheap too.
link
$116 -pups
$10 - pup covers
$20 - two claws
$40 - Pickguard
=$166 without claws, $186 with. Prices taken from GPR.
With Strat pups;
$30 - boutique Strat pups from Guitar Fetish
$10 - pup covers
$40 - Pickguard
=$80 total. Claws won't fit the Strat pickups, so I left them out.
That's less than half the price for a pickup that's only *slightly* different.
Either way though, I desperately need to know what kind of screws I need to mount ANY pickup in my Jaguar. Will those Jazzmaster pickup screws work??

This would be the cheapest, and best sounding way to go, if you're on a tight budget. GFS pickups are tempting, but there's a reason they're so cheap.

The GFS lipsticks look cool, and the specs seem interesting.

Now lipsticks are another story altogether.
That would be sweet.

How would that sound? I was interested in doing that as well, but I've never played with lipstick pups before. What would they sound like in a Jaguar?RumorsOFsurF wrote: Now lipsticks are another story altogether.

I've only heard them in Danelectros, but they sound kind of like Mustang pickups with a little bit more bottom end.

Re: Fitting Strat Pickups in a Jaguar?
i have some lipstick pups and imo they suck, they are to mellow and too low output sounding for a jaguar.
jagaur pups are around 6.5k mustang pups (in my 66) are about 5.6k and the mustang pups have more output than the lipsticks i have which are actually around 7.5k.
i dunno why they sound less output than the mustang ones but they do.they just dont sound good at all imo and they arent cheap chinese ones either.
