Yes very true - Tonebomb is not the best option if you’re in a hurry, and their comms isn’t the greatest.

However, they are legit and do very good work at a reasonable price point.
Are you still happy with the neck?

I've been considering trying one of their necks. I priced out an all-Wenge 24.75" conversion neck for $400 CAD after shipping and tax - that's crazy good. I priced out the same thing at Warmoth and it would be double the price after shipping, taxes and duties.

So, I'm thinking it might be worth the wait to get it from Tonebomb, as long as the neck itself is going to be nice.

I've got two Tonebomb bodies in the works, one a Jazzmaster that's sanded and ready for sanding sealer, and the other a Jaguar that I just got and haven't had a chance to touch outside of unboxing it. Both are Rufftone series bodies.

I wish there was an option for binding on the necks... I'd love a Jag neck with pearl dots and binding. His pricing is pretty darn good otherwise

Funnily enough, in keeping with the theme of protracted timelines, this neck is still waiting for a body (not from Tonebomb, but i offloaded the body I originally had set aside for the neck, and haven’t got a new one yet). I do enjoy looking at it, although I continue to struggle with the aesthetic of the large side dots. Petty, I know.

I can’t see myself buying Warmoth stuff any more - their prices have gone up, and shipping to Australia now is stupidly expensive. I’d still say Musikraft are my go-to, but i really should get this Tonebomb neck some love.

Yeah, and shipping to Canada basically adds another $100 plus whatever bullshit brokerage and duties the carrier wants to charge us (I just had a $90 brokerage bill from UPS on a guitar with $0 of taxes owed).

A brokerage bill is literally just a fee for submitting the tax paperwork they're required to submit when bringing something across the border. It's literally one form, which the shipper fills out for them (!). They charge Americans $0 for it when going the other way, and the post office charges us $0-$10 on imports, but all other carriers charge us whatever the hell they feel like because they know we face a decision of either paying it or losing whatever is in the package.

So that basically means that a Warmoth or Musikraft neck costs us Canadians an extra $200 or so in shipping and fees. Tonebomb somehow manages to offer an all-Wenge conversion neck with any desired fretboard radius for $209 USD, and the shipping is around $20 with zero brokerage fees.

The entire neck is damn close to the price of just the shipping and brokerage fee on an American neck. And that's before you get to the parts where Warmoth charges $50 for a Wenge fretboard while Tonebomb charges $6, etc.

I think my next neck kinda has to be from Tonebomb. The math would be different for an American buyer, but they have a pretty massive price advantage here just by virtue of being Canadian.

Body-wise my experience was whatever was listed on eBay.

The first one took a little bit because I asked if he ever had Jazzmaster bodies since they were on the site but they didn't come up in his completed history on eBay or Reverb. He said he was waiting on some alder and would make some. As soon as he listed them, I jumped. It took him several days to ship and then it came via Canadian post into USPS, which is its own private hell unto itself. :D That part's not his fault, though.

Second one was the Jaguar body, which had a Memorial Day Weekend discount. It was in stock and ready to ship. I chose the DHL option and it came within a few days.

I've not ordered anything custom. I do, however, see a neck in my future.

Ordered a tele neck and body about three weeks ago. Sounds like I’m in for a long wait. Looking forward to it though.

Still waiting on this. Pretty sure it won't happen until next year, even if they insist it won't take that long.

I'm assuming you ordered a body and neck finished?

I ordered a custom CBS Style strat neck with an ebony fretboard and a pre-installed nut on Aug 31st, paid $270 + $29 in shipping to US. Just reached out and they informed me its scheduled for a Nov 16th completion, though their CNC machine was down for a few weeks so it may be an additional week or two delay.

I was expecting waiting for the long haul since I am still working on the guitar body for the project, so I am not that worried. Also for the very specific specs I wanted, it was easily the best price. It is a damn shame that Canadians can't buy American without crazy fees the same way we can do the opposite.

Just noticed the dates on your previous posts right after I posted mine. Hopefully they're not too backed up :fp:

Yeah. Can't complain based on the price, but definitely longer than I thought it'd be.

I'm waiting on some things from Parklane and MJT as well. Every time you contact them it's "two weeks." Then that passes and it's another 2 weeks. It's like they all watch The Money Pit without a sense of irony.

"Two weeks" is the new "just five more minutes" from every road trip with my dad.
