Hello I have a fender mustang competition VINTERA II like this one https://www.fender.com/fr-FR/guitares-e ... 30320.html which I am modifying for my project to recreate Kurt Cobain's 1969 Mustang Competition. I am currently in the installation phase of a Tune-O-Matic (I already hear a lot of people telling me "no, don't do that to me, you will downgrade your guitar) and I would like to have your opinion on the questions that I ask myself.
Not really knowing which TOM would go on my guitar I bought the following three on Stewmac :
- Nashville TOM : https://www.stewmac.com/parts-and-hardw ... nCode=4502
- Gotoh TOM : https://www.stewmac.com/parts-and-hardw ... nCode=1511
- Gotoh TOM with standard Post : https://www.stewmac.com/parts-and-hardw ... nCode=0167
By opening the vibrato plate, I found 2 inserts like these (size M6)

I would have avoided drilling to enlarge the holes in case I wanted to go back. For the Gotoh TOM, the inserts are M8 size and I would have to drill with an 11mm drill bit, so enlarge the holes. For the Gotoh with post standards, I would have to reduce the hole to M4. And otherwise for the Nashville, the whole fits into the current inserts but there is some hesitation.
When I see how a classic Mustang bridge is installed, the latter too and its metal rod is just inserted into the insert and there is some floating as well. Would the Nashville hold up the same if I used it? or should it be wrapped with ribbon?
Are there inserts of size M6 but which would be threaded and in which I could put a rod like the gotoh with standard post?
If ever I were to enlarge the hole and want to go back, what should I plug the hole with? They say you shouldn't use wood filler?
I also plan to do a shimming of the neck to compensate for the 12" radius tom, I bought these cards on Stewmac, which one do you think would be the most suitable?

Thank you for your advice and other suggestions that I would not have mentioned.

You should be able to use these if you use the GOTOH standard post tom you bought. Just pop out the original thimbles in the guitar and replace with these.

Did you successfully complete this mod? If so, what was your solution?
I am also planning on converting a Squier Mustang classic vibes to a Comp Mustang with Cobain TOM mod. I am considering using this roller TOM: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LG2QKDV/
