A little update on the partsmaster, since a big piece arrived today... The blonde CIJ body is finally here!

First of all, I am pleasantly surprised by the color.  It's very nice. The photos in the auction didn't do it justice, as the wood grain is beautiful and the finish flawless. It looks very good with the 1965 tortoise guard on.

Here it is...

I can't wait now for the other parts to arrive, and for the neck to be finished.  It is currently having its headstock reshaped to a correct JM shape by a friend of mine.

Thanks! It's even better in person!..  ;)

If the sun (finally) comes out tomorrow, I'll post better pics.

I like it a lot. I was expecting a butterscotch blonde, but the white blonde looks really nice. The old guard definitely makes a world of difference. I can't wait to see it when it is all finished up. So what neck did you end up going with?

I bought the All Parts LRO (with the large CBS headstock, hence the necessary reshaping).. It seems very good. It feels a lot chunkier than my CIJ neck, and having very big hands, I think I might end up using it on my sunburst JM instead.... If so, in the end, the partsmaster will pretty much be a complete CIJ with a few upgrades.

I really like the LRO all around. You're right about it being a fairly chunky shape. I think it feels about perfect. I like the Japanese necks a lot, but they feela  little too thin at times.

I assembled the partsmaster today, just to take some pictures and get an idea of what it will look like when I get everything together... I also wanted to take a final decision on the pickguard color: tortoise or gold on the blonde body. Here are the results:

The final decision is tortoise on blonde and the gold guard will stay on my sunburst, even though all of these combinations look good.

Looks sweet - you can't go wrong with a gold guard on either sunburst or blonde I reckon.

Is that one of the iconic Montreal outdoor staircases I see?

Both look good! Either one would be good.

Yes, Sir it is indeed!!   :) But that one is made of wood because its in the back of the house... In front, it's all metal and curved, very typical of Montreal!

Hmm, personally I would've gone with gold on blonde but either way works well :D. That's a fine tort you have there.

I say gold on the blonde as well

Well, guys, you make me doubt now.......

I just might add that there were other deciding factors.

First of all, the 1959 pots, wiring and switches that came with the gold guard are to remain with the sunburst and, well, they go well with the gold guard, especially since the tort guard has shrunk so much (I bought it from a fellow who kept it in his parts drawer for many years)...

Then, there's the CIJ sunburst that looks nothing like a target burst which would fit well with the tort. It's more like those faded 1950's bursts that go so well with the gold guard.

Anyway, it's the final decision... for now!  ;) It could all change when all the parts will be ready and I'll start assembling them for real.

In this case, there are only good options anyway!!

I like your choice.

The red in the torts a nice contrast to the white blonde, and you can never go wrong with gold on sunburst, sorta a more mellow look.....

Ive always wanted to try sonic blue and gold :? :?
but maybe I'm weird.
