Shortscale Jazzmaster?

Post by fenderjapan » Mon Oct 27, 2008 3:25 am

When I woke up today 1st thing I thought was, why don't I build a 24" scale jazzmaster :D I already got the pups, elektronic and the neck from my CIJ jag. :)
Also what would be the best thing to do, move the bridge closer to the neck or the neck closer to the bridge?

Bridge closer to neck would be better I would say.
Great Idea by the way!

Surely you wouldn't have to move anything nearer to anything, you'd just use a jag body?

I think moving bridge closer to neck would be the best solution. That way, reaching the highher frets would stay the same. However, if you move the bridges, then you may have to move the pickup at the bridge position too. On the other hand, if you were to move the neck you would most likely have tyo move the neck pickup. What about the tailpiece? I do not own a JM, but is the distance from the tailpiece to the bridge the same as a Jag? It seems that changing this distance might affect the tension of the strings behind the bridge, and maybe cause the tremelo to act differently. Also, would it cause the strings to jump on the bridge, or cause problems there?

There's a lot to think about. Surely someone has tried this before. I'd love to hear about the outcome.

+1

and you could use your existing jag pickguard + plates as template for a one-piece guard.

That's a good idea
I'm curently building a Jaguar with Jazzmaster pick-ups
and I'm wondering how the short scale could affect the pups sound...

If you tune a Jazzmaster down half a step and put a capo on the first fret you get the Jaguar string tension and scale length, so it's easy to check that much...

....Minus the chrome plates, mute and pup selection slider switches, different wiring, different bodyshape, different pickguard shape....

Or you could say it's like a Jazzmaster - with shorter neck!  :P
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?
