Another Marauder thread (and jazzmaster...) Pics on page 12!
Hi all!
Always wanted to build Marauder guitar but couldn't find any info or plans, or even a decent picture to make my own. Than, I found this forum, and mr. Stereoordinary's thread. Boy, was I happy!
So I get started; pressed my friend to draw me a plans from pictures in stereo's thread and than cut some wood:
Have no idea how original routing looks like so I came up with my own "design":
Four switch plate was the 1st problem I encounterd; I've tried to contact French luthier Atelkof who makes them, but his favourite song was "No replay" from The Beatles.
So, with a little help of CorelDraw
and some CNC work I get this:
I still have to find the way to get them chrome plated, but they look very nice and sturdy. Upper one is Jag style and came from e-bay.
Those brown plates are pickup bobin parts. "Original" Marauder pickups looked something like this:
Not yet decided what kind of pickups I will use, "marauder" or start style, but I definitely will use Neodymium pole pieces instead of AlNiCo 'cause they are much, much stronger and (I think) will work great concealed under the pickguard. Here is finished bobin:
Tomorrow, I'll wind the pickup to vintage strat neck specs and test it; today I only managed to do strat one:
That's all for now. English is not my native language (I'm Croatian) so I apologize for possible mistakes. (oh man, can I type )

Cool project! Those pups looks like they're going to be awesome.
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Ah, your own thread, looking cool so far!
If you are going to use the Marauder pickup design for all pickups..... 64 neodymium magnets! Man, they are soooo strong, aren´t you afraid the strings will stick to the pickguard?kifla wrote: Not yet decided what kind of pickups I will use, "marauder" or start style, but I definitely will use Neodymium pole pieces instead of AlNiCo 'cause they are much, much stronger and (I think) will work great concealed under the pickguard.

Re: Another Marauder thread
I've already made a strat with those neodymium pole pieces, sound is very DireStraitish. Yes they are stong, but there is no impact on string vibrations nor sustain, they are just louder. I'll make one Marauder pickup for testing purposes; if it turns to be overkill I'll go with strat design.Ret Samzzaj wrote: If you are going to use the Marauder pickup design for all pickups..... 64 neodymium magnets! Uh, I'am not fan of clear pickguards. Made a few upon request but, to me, guitar looked like it's "wounded".Powerblues wrote:Now that would be interesting to see!letsgocoyote wrote: you know what would be really cool? those marauder pickups under a clear pickgaurd
