Hope this isn't premature but it looks like they've come good. They've got the tuners I sent back & are dispatching replacements now. Third time lucky I guess!!

The tuners arrived this morning. They're in better condition than the last ones. No rust whatsoever so I'm pretty pleased.

2 of the tuners are kinda stiff & feel like they scrape a little as they're turned. Should I just oil them or is there another tip I don't know yet??

:)  I finally have a fully working 1959 Jazzmaster!!!!  :)

I try not to ever buy expensive stuff on ebay.
I like to buy old tube (valve) radios and restore them.
Usually I get them locally at flea markets or antique stores and pay maximum of 30 bucks for them.
And usually I can fix them because I examine them before I buy them.
But ebay, I have bought about 10 from it. It irks me to pay the exorbitant shipping charge plus alot of them are junk.
I have been burnt on ebay so I am careful not to buy anything too expensive there.
If it is used, it could be in any condiiton at all.

You are lucky you bought yours from a store behind the ebay sale. You can get their phone number and you can call them too.
I would.
And make them understand that you will keep calling them until you are satisfied.

Call the store in Hoboken and ask them.
In fact this is part  of the price you paid. It is called "customer service".

Plus if you call them you can get to know them and find out if they get in any stuff you want before they put it on ebay.

BTW - Hoboken V. is fine for parts...but they need to learn how to grade an axe!?!?

Not oil!  Grease them.

Best way is to take a Syringe and fill it with Grease (red) and cut the needle off near the base, I glued a rubber tip to mine.  Then, open the tuner, clean out the old Crytalized grease, and close it back up.  Then force the grease throught the 'breather' hole on the tuner casing and work it into the gears.

Oil does nothing to aid in the lubrication as there is too much space and the oil is too viscous to stay in contact with the gears.

As requested by StevenO I'm in the process of putting together a series of guitar-porn shots. Many over-indulgent close ups & stuff.....I'm such a guitar geek!!  :D

I would think carefully about opening up the case on a vintage tuner :-\

the lugs can snap off as they are very brittle.
Yes the cat has opposing thumbs and extra digits.

Yeah I'm gonna leave em be, they've eased up now anyway. I think they were just a bit old & creaky to begin with.
