New SX-SJM 62

Post by Troyus » Tue Jan 19, 2010 4:59 pm

Just ordered an SX SJM as a cheap Jazzmaster alternative... since the last time I bought one there's been a couple of nice upgrades, or course they aren't 99 bucks anymore either, now 130, plus about 20 bucks shipping. They now have a locking trem, a roller bridge, and an angled neck pocket. Frets are finished pretty well, frets are not the most level on the planet, but they are OK. This one is a red color, more candy cola than candy apple toned, looks nice. I will put some pics up, as soon as I re-route it and put in some JM pickups. :)

I <3 mine.

After a fret level, and general set up, I found it totally playable. I'm using hybrid slinkys on mine (10s). It's totally gig worthy.

How are the roller bridges on the newer ones? I don't think we lefties get that option. Fine by me of course, but I am curious.

I've seen a few rout for JM pups. Was thinking the same before I fell in love with the P90s. Maybe someday...Looking forward to seeing yours done!

Ah, i was gonna get one of these
went to order a SJM stop tail black w. 3 P90s (although i really wanted the trem, but it they had no other black ones)

unfortuently, SX doesn't allow sale to Australia! the bastards!

kinda happy i didnt, cause ill be getting a much more satisfying guitar soon (looks more like a jazzmaster and has the trem)

ooo first post btw :D YAY!

Did not have a Jazzmaster pickup template.. did have two Jazzmaster pickguards... ;)

Turned out pretty good.... used some 500k pots, hovland .47 cap and US Jazzmaster pickups.. sounds fantastic.

Glad you all had better luck than I. My 2-year old CAR SJM-62 is a total steaming pile, even after investing in a Warmoth improved Mustang bridge and a Whizzo Buzzstop. Just barely playable.

Nice! I've considered ordering one for a while, given how cheap they are...
So I pretend there aren't ten strings tied to all ten of my fingers.

Is that good? Do I want that? :shifty:

lol That SJM looks totally fine with those JM pickups. Does it sound as nice as it looks?

Dude it is so luck of the draw with the SX instruments... I bought 5 Jazz basses just to see (I sold them all later), one weighed 8.5 lbs, one weighed 12, the rest in between, some had pretty decent fret jobs, one was terrible...

To be fair I sent the 12 pounder back due to the insane weight and got all my money back which was cool.

i ordered a daphne blue one earlier this year (maybe august), and tried to love it. i ordered one with a floating bridge, and was sent one with a TOM. i e-mailed to see if i could just replace it with one with a floater, and kurt had no idea what i was saying. i even sent him pics of it and he said he didn't see the difference, and could only offer me a refund. i sent it back and then he only refunded me my original purchase price, not my shipping. i eventually got him to refund the shipping because the guitar i received was not the one advertised, but he seemed very reluctant to do so.

i would not buy one again unless there was some way i could verify exactly what i was getting before i got it. i did get a shortscale jazz bass at the same time, and i love it. it's exactly as pictured.

the quality is fantastic for the price, and the pickups are very nice clean and dirty. i wish they still sold their contour tele's :squint:
