Nice, that is an SA-5 carcass. SA-50 pickups won't fit.

I saw one on Yahoo Japan. Did you get that one?

Yeah, that’s the one. It was listed as a 50 but I see what you mean about the pickups. I think the ones I have are the right size but I haven’t tried yet.
(edit) I just went and had a look and yeah, the smaller pickups for sure. However the headstock logo is a bit different from other SA-5s (taller font, pearloid inlay) and it doesn't have binding on the neck heel or the inside angle of the horns, which I understood to be a SA-5 identifier. Weird one! Maybe it's a SA-30? Serial number is 8240 which is 1968 I believe.

Here's my 1979 Guild D25. It had a pickguard crack and the OG guard was curling up pretty bad. So, time to pull it up and replace it after gluing and cleating the crack...except. Whatever glue guild were using tore up the spruce top pretty bad. I heated things up as much as I was comfortable and did my best to work in line with the grain, but almost half the thickness was lost in places. :fp: bummer.

So, I sealed it with shellac, made an ok color match (it was better before the top coat), then evened out the topography with CA.

The OG guard was very dark tort, almost black, and it's pretty large, so supplies are a little tough. I made up this one, but I think it's a little corny. I have another one on the way that should be darker.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

My 65 VibroChamp.

It's been getting darker and darker over the last 2 years to the point where it was really starting to sound dull.

I pulled the 250pf cap out the tone circuit to see how much it had drifted - but it hadn't. Reads 262pF which is probably about as good as it was when it went in. The two 100k resistors pulling away from it were also <10% out (so, in spec).

Confused, I turned to the pot itself. Well well well... 156k in circuit, 171k out of circuit. So about 30% drift in the wrong direction. Cleaning it didn't help at all so I just dug out a modern 250k CTS and measured that. 272k out, 249k in.

MUCH BETTER!

Yay for science. And teaching yourself how to fix your own amps (with a little help from friends) :-*
