Thanks! Yeah I'm really happy with the color combo on this one. Next time I'll go a bit lighter with the transparent blonde color though. I think I put 1 coat too many - would like it to be just a wee bit less opaque.

It's great the way it is. Of course lighter would be good, too.

The blonce is really nice, especially with a black PG. But then, I'm partial to blonde with black, anyway.

The PG definitely has that attention grabbing look to it! My first time working with single ply celluloid. Incredibly easy to cut/route. And to think, I was originally contemplating going with a white guard

The pickups are the real show stoppers though. "Dual foil" gold foil pickups in a p90 cover. They are switchable between full humbucking mode and single coil with no drop in volume when switching from one to the other! I find myself leaving the neck pickup coil split and bridge in humbucker - really cool range of tones.

This stuff actually ended up coming from Warmoth. The blank stock they sell is enough for me to get 2 pick guards out of. It has a "fresh from the factory" sort of matte sheen. It could be buffed up to a high gloss if desired, but for this one I felt like the matte finish fit the overall build.

For this one my process was: waterbased sealer to seal the wood, 3 coats then sanded smooth. then mixed up the transparent white - I mixed white pigment into clear waterbased lacquer until I got something I thought was close to the tint I was after. Then it was 3 coats of this transparent white, followed by clear coats with no tint to finish it off. Hope this helps! if you're using rattle cans then I bet reranch's MaryKaye white would get you very close to the same ballpark. I also did not grain fill the swamp ash because I actually really like the look and feel of an open grain finish.

rewired the jankaster with a set of AVRI pickups i got for £40 (i'm good at haggling) it now also has a phase switch.

Wanted to sell my bass since I wasn't playing much... But decided against it, actually fixed all issues, and now trying to get back to playing instead.

It's a Squier Cabronita bass body, but the neck is from a Mike Dirnt signature Precision because I like rosewood fretboards better than maple, and because it also has a satin finish. Pickup is the original Fender Fidelitron, which sounds awesome (I only wish it had a slightly higher output), electronics are upgraded, and obviously knobs aren't original either. Fantastic little bass altogether.

Been working on this guitar for the past few weeks. It's a bit of a hybrid (Jaguar body template, full scale neck).




It's a birthday gift for a friend of a friend (who's helping in building it and paying for all the parts).
Keeping this on a budget has been a bitch. We bought most of the parts from Aliexpress (pickup, bridge, tuners, electronics etc.). The neck is from Gear4Music and is completely off spec (wider heel, thicker heel) so I had to route the pocket out wider and deeper after finishing which was quite nerve wrecking and the bridge has a shim underneath it. It's still not aligned properly. Tuner holes had to be doweled and drilled out for vintage tuners too (bought the neck after the tuners).
Body is a slightly thinner than regular sandwich of birch ply with a pine core and is surprisingly light even without contours.
Body is finished with custom blended milkpaint from Miss Mustardseed. The black layer has a heavy helping of dark silver, black and dark blue Mica in it to give it a little shimmer and the pink has a bit of red acrylic added to it so it wasn't as dull. Headstock is straight black. Milkpaint is so forgiving and customisable; I love it. The whole guitar is coated in a few layers of tung oil.
We kept it under a 100 bucks but man, after this I'd rather pay a premium for good parts than having to futz around with things that aren't really worth the time and effort. I hope he likes it! At least it looks punk rock.
