Re: What's on your workbench right now?
Well, one small upside of being cooped up at home the past week has been the chance to round off a few projects that have been sitting around gathering dust for ages.
This evening I tackled the mess of a wah pedal I picked up at a garage sale years ago, a ca. 1970 Thomas Organ Crybaby that has seen its share of torment at the hands of a previous owner. Someone drilled a hole for a 9v adapter, but later reverted back to the original battery clip...by twisting the wires together sans any soldering and wrapping the whole mess in electrical tape and what looked like dental floss Because of this, the pedal has always been really unreliable, cutting out every so often; on top of that, the whole thing sounded really muddled/muddy, and the pot was annoyingly scratchy, despite my best efforts to clean it.
After sitting in a drawer the past 5 years, it got a good scrubbing, new pot installed, a fancy Whipple inductor to replace the original Japanese TDK piece, a 9v DC jack replacing the sketchy battery snap rat's nest, and finally some wiring decluttering.
A few hours of playing later and everything's working a treat and it sounds like a wet blanket has been taken off the thing--whether to chalk it up to the new pot, more reliable power source, inductor swap, or simply good old expectation bias I'm not sure, but certainly having a blast with it.

it's going to have a 70's dimarzio in the neck (i just wired it in) i'm also planning on blacking out the headstock. outside that. it's just small things that are going to slow me down. mainly i dont have thimbles that are the correct size. i see this one basically being finished by next week.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 1:35 pmThat is fantastic Sean!!!
