Rgand, thank you for the compliment. However, it is not exactly what I want. I decided to paint the pickguard a different color, which turns out to be a rust-brown. To my thinking, it's a little better but still not quite there. I am considering a stronger red--something like a blood red.

I have also discovered areas of the pickguard that are becoming delaminated. This is a piece of pickgaurd material that I purchased from Stewmac and which they replaced because of delamination. I thought that I had chosen an area that was okay, or that I could superglue the pieces back together. That does not seem to be the case, so this pickguard has become more like an experiment before I make the final one.

I'm interested in what members think.

I like it! It looks good, though I agree that maybe a darker red would be cool too. Like a blood red or a wine red.

I second this.
I would also paint the pu rings the same colour to give it continuity and sort of "dilute" the big blood pool across the entire body.

Can I ask you to post a pic of the actual colour without any filter on in order to have a better idea of the colour you're spraying? Right now it looks like a fantastic anodized aluminium.

Also, are you going for a glossy or matte finish?

Thanks for all your comments. I'll try to answer the questions/comments made.

If possible, I'll paint the pickguard a darker red on Friday. I'm beginning to think that may be the ideal color, but I won't know for sure until the pickguard is painted. I'm basically going for a semi-gloss finish. After I shoot the color, I put clear lacquer over it. I do not do much wet sanding, though. Just the minimum to lessen the roughness. Also, this is not expensive paint, It's coming from cans of spray paint/lacquer that cost about $3 dollars each.

As for painting the pickup covers, the pickups I'm using are Firebird-style pickups with the chrome metal rings, so I don't think painting the covers is an option. We'll see how the pickguard looks with the pickups once it's painted the darker red.

I don't use a filter on my camera. Unfortunately, my camera has seen better days, and I need to adjust for clarity and light. However, I generally don't adjust the color. I did when posting the photo of the pickguard when it was painted a tan color, but that was only because without adjustment it looked so similar to white.

I'm not sure of the names of the colors I'm using. I live in Taiwan, and the writing on the cans is mostly in Chinese. I am finding, however, that the colors when sprayed are a little lighter than what is on the can's cap.

Hopefully, more on Friday.

Cute dogs...and cat! Thanks for your comment. Here are the two colors that are currently under consideration. I decided to attach the neck and most of the hardware. I like both colors, but I think the darker red (I'll call it crimson.) better sets off the area around the pickguard, which highlights the lower body curves.

Here's the color I'll call rust.



And the crimson.



I have to admit that I like them both. The crimson looks better in person than in the photo. The rust looks about the same.

Thoughts welcomed.

It's a subtle difference. If the crimson looks better than the picture in person, that's what I'd go with. I am already leaning towards the crimson anywho, and if it looks even better, that would be my preference.

Both of those look good but my preference would be the rust because it's the same intensity as the body itself. At least it looks that way in the photos. Can't go wrong either way.

Yeah, the pups are cute. Thanks. The one on the left is only 5 months old but growing fast to catch up with the other one. The cat was raised by two dogs and now gets to raise two dogs herself. It's sometimes hard to tell if I have two dogs and a cat or just three dogs. They don't know the difference. Or even care.

Whammy bar for a Yamaha SA30...

Recently bought an SA-30 in distress which was all nicely put back together. As it was missing the whammy bar, I took the original whammy bar of another SA30 I have and copied its design. Then a stainless steel version was made and I polished it yesterday and then bend it slightly to match the original. Here is a photo of the top and bottom of it.

I will post another photo of it once it is fitted to the guitar. I think it will also fit an SA15.

Thanks for the comments. There is a third option: tortoiseshell. I have a piece large enough, but I hesitate using it because of cost. The material I have is what Stewmac sells. Any opinions? Could be the best choice.
