The 'T7 – Dark Bronze Metallic' Jaguar Project
I've got myself a really nice APR 65 Jaguar neck (that already got around in this forum a little )
... and I'm planning to make a body for it myself. I started to make a routing template. I scaled the Fender PDFs until they fit, fooled around a little with a coping saw and some plywood and this is what I have so far. Some edges are still a bit wobbly but I'm in the process of sanding them to a proper form.
Colorwise I chose a non-Fender color: It's from a 1969 Dodge and called 'T7 Dark Bronze Metallic'
I think it will look rad with all the chrome
I'll keep you posted,
Cheers irv!

I love the color... if it's good enough for vintage Mopar muscle... it's good enough for a jag!
Very inspiring...I can't wait to see some pictures...

are you using Testors Model Masters DBM? Good stuff, easy to get even coat unlike some metallics

Thanks for the interest everybody!
I'm sorry to deceive your hopes - there will be no matching headstock. I won't be messing around with this nice vintage neck.
As for the paint: I'm going to use MOTIP automotive paint in rattle cans. I hope they work as fine as the model paint you recommend janglemaster.

Im sure you'll have great success with the paint! I just happened to notice that color the other day while browsing the model paint section at the hobby store. I love using auto paint because to get 100's of reference pictures all you do is google image search the car/color! no guessing how it will look

Re: The 'T7 – Dark Bronze Metallic' Jaguar Project
Hi everybody! It's time for a small update.
I'm really taking my time with this project ... I'm planning not to mess anything up too much
Here we go: Here I'm in the process of making a 18mm MDF working template. I copied the outline of my plywood template to the MDF and started cutting it roughly into shape with a jigsaw.
Right before flush trimming the MDF with my plywood template ... which turned out to be a little too soft so I had to be extra careful not to dent it with the bearing. (making a mental note: do not use poplar plywood for templates)
Then I screwed my MDF template straight onto the body blank (nice and light poplar) and started routing away.
... and five passes later I had my body ... the fixture of the bearing went a little haywire and lightly burnt the right edge of the body on the last pass.
Today I want to finish the templates for the body cavities and the neck pocket.

Re: The 'T7 – Dark Bronze Metallic' Jaguar Project
Got something done over the weekend
Finished my MDF templates (I had to touch up the lower right curve with wood filler because my poplar plywood master template was damaged in the routing process)
Made a 1/2" round over on the body
Routed the cavities and started with the contours
It's really light - around 1700 gramms (3 lbs 12 oz) and it looks like a real guitar!
But the contours are giving me a hard time ... I only have a rasp and it took me ages to make the forearm contour
... already getting popeye-forearms

That's looking great! I can only imagine how fulfilling it is, to turn a plank of wood in to a beautiful guitar.
I haven't taken the plunge yet, but I've always had the bug to build a body from scratch.
Can't wait to see it painted and together - I think you made a great choice with colour - it's going to look amazing
What's the plan for the pickguard? Tort? Mint? Black?

Re: The 'T7 – Dark Bronze Metallic' Jaguar Project
Time for an update!
I finished the contours at last ... the arm cut turned out fine, but no matter what I did, the belly cut remained a little uneven. I decided to use the last warm days to paint this thing. Here it is: Primered, sanded and primered again and sanded a little more.
And then the dark bronze metallic. The can spit a little but the successive coats evened it out.
... so far so good ...
... but then ...
When I started clear coating. I sprayed a mist coat, a light coat, and the first fairly wet coat blushed as if there were no tomorrow!
Big greyish white clouds all over the body ... I didn't even want to take a picture of it, it's so ugly. I checked the humidity and it was at 70% - should have checked before(!)
I brought the body inside after letting it flash off a little and it got slightly better over night, but still. I'm waiting now for a better time to continue (with less humidity). I've read that a light mist coat of clear in dry weather helps to get rid of the blushing. I also read about "blush remover" but I couldn't figure out how that would be called in german ...
Any tips to solve my blushing issues are highly appreciated!
