Stumbled across this site and its scan at notation on modifying a Gretsch Astro Jet.

http://www.guitarfritz.com/gretsch-astro-jet/

Tried modifying it and adjusting it to the dimensions of its little brother, a Corvette, modifying the upper horn in the process. Unfortunately it's been awhile since I've messed with imaging software, and being unable to access Illustrator and vectorize my work all I'm left with is a pixelated little thing. Anyone want the .PSD to vectorize?

PM sent.

Also, here's a link to making some templates. Looking to do this myself soon.

roscbarn wrote:Telecaster-like heel (straight ). This changes things a little bit, but the most important measure is the nut to heel.

I picked up the measures in this drawing:

http://terrydownsmusic.com/Archive/Tele ... g_revE.pdf

Things that will not change are:

Scale: 628.65mm (24.75'')
Additional regarding intonation (according to Stewmac fret calculator): 1.541mm
Additional in the bass side (1.5 to 3mm according to Stewmac): I put 2mm

In the drawing below, to illustrate, I assumed that the heel would be in the location of a non-existent 23rd fret, but of course, this is an wild guess. Depending of the location of the heel, the bridge will be in a different place.

Better wait the neck to arrive to verify the measures. Then I can update the template. But you can work in the outline of the body in the meantime. When the neck arrives please get me posted (matter of fact, I'm really interested in this neck for a project).

See ya.
I´ll let you know as soon as I get the neck. The delivery time is 7-14 days as I live in Sweden. Gonna look at some birch tomorrow and hopefully it´s nice and dry. Also, I´ll start with a route template in MDF this weekend and do the outline.
Thanks a lot! :)

BUMPing this thread to see if anyone has - or could make - a template for a bolt-on Billy Bo Jupiter Thunderbird body? I've been inspired by recent builds on this forum and i wanna make a white and gold one, a la jack white's guitar that he plays with the dead weather but with a tele neck.

gracias

Here you go. I already had been toying with this outline.

Image

I think the pixelization re-scaling the thing would be very small.

I made this one with a frontal picture of the body, but of course, small deviations from the original one could exist.

See ya.

- Heel to nut 45.4 cm
- Heel width 5.75 cm
- Heel end to fretboard overhang 6.5 mm
- Fretboard overhang to nut 46.1 cm

Also found a Epiphone Special II neck for cheap that I´ll get this week. Gonna post some measurements and pics of it when it arrives.

Follow the revised template and drawing of the RD:

Image

In this version you can push the bridge a few milimeters towards the end of the body.

In the beginning of this week I'll post the Astro-jet which .psd RaDana sent to me.

If anyone thinks the pixelization re-scaling the drawings is too much, let me know and I'll post a pdf version of the drawings.

This topic at TDPRI is amazing. So much info about some beloved underdogs.

http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-de ... e-pdf.html

For now: Fender Lead, Gretsch Astro-Jet and Domino Californian Rebel:

Fender Lead (by Stroyboards27):

Astro-Jet (by ajr969) and Domino Rebel (by xardoz):

The Astro-Jet there is much better than my incomplete attempt that I have now in my computer. For a bolt-on version just change the neck joint, move the bridge and pickups accordingly and that's it.

Amazing how years of personal research is answered in a few seconds. Thanks again, real good stuff in that TDPRI link.

Hello all;

I want to build an electric xii copy come spring; I haven't been able to find any plans so I scaled some out from a photo using Inkscape, just thought I'd share. I'm planning on doing more with it (neckthrough and possible thinline); so I'll probably post a more refined version later.

Hey I did that Fender Lead body! Nice to see it getting passed around and used! ;D

Here's a couple other templates I've created.
