Aged Sonic Blue

Post by fullerplast » Tue Dec 25, 2007 8:15 am

OK, I wasn't sure where exactly to put this thread... but thought it might interest someone and so here it is (appropriately categorized or not):

Today I saw a VW Beetle (the new one) in the EXACT shade of aged Sonic Blue. It was that gray, ever-so-slightly green eggshell color of aged Sonic Blue. It nailed it perfectly IMO.

So if anyone is interested in the color WITHOUT having to go Sonic and then tint it... you may want to look into it. A coat of that with nitro over top would probably look GREAT!

EDIT:

This may be it, although it looked better in the sun today:

Yeah, I saw one of those too and thought the same thing.  Weird, there's a Lexus mini SUV that I swear is painted IBM!

VW is one of the only car companies who still uses interesting colors. The rest are all metallics and run of the mill.
What's he building in there?

Isn't it strange that we look at car colors and think - WOW, I think that looks like [insert favorite guitar color here].

well ...  not always ... in the last couple of years the car company i work for has actually added some decent colours to its usual list of boring tones...

I think I read somewhere that the Holden Efijy was actually inspired partly by Cadzilla.

Yeah I read about how it was inspired by the company History too, thats why I said partly. Either way it's an awesome looking Concept/Tribute.

That was me. The Ford blue doesn't really have any "greenish-ness" to it, it's just a very very light blue. That color sample above looks slightly green on my monitor. If you put nitro clear over it then eventually it will yellow (and thus go green). I used Deft clear because I don't want that to happen, I'd rather have it stay blue.

Here's my Strat:
