Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
Here's one of my new designs.
Semi-hollow body. Cross fools-gold foil humbucker with split and bass-cut options. (not wired yet)
Wigsby tremolo.
surf blue-green vinyl wrap finish with white dano-style binding. (this is my way of finishing in the cold season)

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
This project is coming along quite quickly.
I haven't profiled the neck yet but I couldn't resist stringing it up to see if everything was in order.
The tuners my be a bit crappy but I was really keen on getting open geared tuners for this (without spending heaps).
Here's some dodgy pics:

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I love everything about this design, but this headstock is my favorite part. I like where you've chosen to place the single pickup. I suspect that, for me at least, this is the ideal place for it. A little bit away from the neck, but still above where a middle pickup on a three-pickup guitar would go.
Also, I'm super jealous of your ability to design pickguards. You make it look so easy, but it's not!

wow, thanks.
The pickguard design was inspired partly by the Gretsch Corvette and maybe the Squier Vista Musicmaster.

I'm picking up a Wandre vibe from this headstock Very, very cool indeed. Kudos for the zero fret too...
How is the Wigsby? I really like the awkward, boating-style design those have.

The wigsby still needs some work. It's a bit rigid. If anyone has any tips on how to set one of these up, that would be great.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
Someone put a Wigsby on a Explorer, maybe this will help you with the setup?
There are 2 versions, one with 2 springs and a revised version with 1 spring.

Thanks.
That dude even looks like me. ha.
Couldn't really find anything useful though regarding the setup.
Mine is the 2 spring version. The revised version must be a big improvement.
It works okay when pushing down on the trem bar but when you bend it upwards it stays there and raises the string pitch.
Maybe I should try grease.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I've had somewhat of a break though with the Wigsby.
First, I removed the roller guides but kept the bar they were attached to.
Then I trimmed the 2 springs to a shorter length to increase spring tension.
I could even remove more if I had better pliers. I'll keep fiddling with it but it looks like it will actually function now.
