Yeah, the advantage being, this only cost me $20au and also you can't get a real one anywhere.Nudger wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 3:05 amLooks great!CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 10:16 pmI've been experimenting with cutting out control plates from aluminium.
This is a left-handed XII control plate. I polished the crap out of it.
I reckon it looks pretty legit.
Is there an advangage polishing your own rather than buying ready polished plate?

It does tend to tarnish very easily. So I don't think it will ever truly look like steel.Steadyriot. wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 5:50 amDamn that looks great! My experience with aluminum is that it always somehow keeps a grey undertone / cast in the sheen but this one looks just like stainless or chrome! Great job.

Maybe I could have worded better.. the plate I use for control plates is already polished "pre cutting",CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 6:52 amYeah, the advantage being, this only cost me $20au and also you can't get a real one anywhere.Nudger wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 3:05 amLooks great!CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 10:16 pmI've been experimenting with cutting out control plates from aluminium.

Oh cool. thanks. I reckon I can source those easily.
Although they are pre-polished, I imagine they would still need additional polishing anyway after they are cut.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I'm giving my NR Crossbird a much needed makeover. I was never quite happy with this build when I first finished it many years ago.
But now it's coming together nicely.
I'm planning on staining it green and going for a semi flat finish.
It's fitted with EYguitars parts.

What are the EY Wide range pickups like? Do you have any experience with other Wide ranges?

I'm curious if the EY WRHB are the Squier (Roswell) pickups without the embossed logo.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 2:03 pmNo, not at all. Hopefully they sound good.
I've tried the EY smaller WRHB pickups and they sound pretty good though.
