It’s been too long...here’s a rig update! Share your rig too!
Hey y’all, it’s been entirely too long since I’ve been on OSG - busy with a graduate degree - but I finally have a break and I’ve missed the community! I’ve got some fun things going on in my rig recently, and I always love getting new rig ideas, so I figured why not start a thread? Here’s my rig! Post yours below!
Here's a wide shot of the soundmaking part of the rig. Nice and simple and compact. And a little bass amp for when the mood strikes. We'll get into more detail below.
The fun part! There's a few recent additions here. My lovely bandmates were kind enough to get me the pitchfork for my birthday (even though I'm the drummer!). Super fun pedal, and very versatile. Actually find myself mostly using it on the detune mode as a chorus pedal.
Next to that is a pedal I just got today. It's a dual pedal (duh). The right side is a triangle muff with a mid-cut knob and a three-way switch to select clipping mode (germanium, silicon, led). The left side is an overdrive modeled on a Dumble sound. Vol, Gain, "Depth" (bass) and "Presence" (high mids) knobs. The middle footswitch controls which pedal feeds into the other. Very handy.
Next to that is another pedal I got today from the same builder. Basic Tonebender clone with vol, gain, tone, and a bass boost. Sounds awesome.
Next to that is the Mooer Ana Echo, my old faithful. Boss DM-2 clone, and a mighty good one at that. It's been on every board I've ever had and it always will be.
Next to that is a ditto looper. Self-explanatory.
Give me coily cables or give me death.
Phew, that was a marathon. Here's the amp situation. 1x12 mesa cab with a v30. Sounds great. Topped by a Quilter ToneBlock 200. Really rich and meaty solid state sound, with a nice little bit of crunch with the gain set high, which is how I leave it.
Running into the front of it is a TC Skysurfer from that new low-budget analog TC range. It's basically an EHX Holy Grail. I love it.
Extra stuff! All of this goes in and out of the rig depending on my mood. Ask below if you want specifics!
The Living Room Gang in bed.
This is Cheryl, named after Cheryl Blossom, from Archie comics. From what I understand, it is a relatively rare Korean Danelectro from the 90s. Being the irreverent little shit that I am, I chiseled out a hole and shoved a Lace red/red dually in there, Johnny Greenwood style. My sentimental favourite, and will always be a part of my rig.
Meet Jack, my modified Epiphone Wilshire. Tossed a Rose Humbucker-sized P90 in the bridge, routed out for a Jazzmaster vibrato, and made a custom pickguard to cover the now-empty neck pickup hole. Vole, Tone, Killswitch. Just how I like it.
Say hello to Veronica, named after Veronica Lodge from Archie comics. The Epi Goth Thunderbird my buddy played in our high school band, with a new bridge, knobs, and pickguard/truss cover made out of a purple record. Tuned to drop C.
Revel in the glory that is Archie, my pride and joy, named after Archie Andrews from Archie comics (but I hope you figured that out for yourself). Picked up on Craiglist for $400, Archie is an early-70s Tomson SPLENDOR SERIES Mustang clone. Sounds amazing, plays amazing, which is good because every single screw is stuck in and stripped, so no parts are coming off, even if I want them to. Action high, .13-guage strings, tuned to drop C (24"scale). I almost exclusively use the bridge pickup, oddly enough.
And of course Alice. He sits on my apartment practice kit, which I will eventually make a thread about in the drum section. Alice is my mascot.
This is my old bronco bass, still my favorite bass ever. $90 on craigslist, with a $30 GFS 'Tron guitar pickup in it.
Last but not least: my World Cup mandolin.
My favourite player. Go Croatia!!
I've got some more stuff scattered around at various places, including a very cool double-cut tele, but that will ahve to wait for another day. I hope you enjoyed! Looking forward to seeing what you've got!

Pretty impressive. Archie looks like a cool guitar, easy to rock.
I don't have pictures to post, but my rig is generally:
Guitar:
1961 Telecaster with PAF neck humbucker or a 1963 Jazzmaster.
Pedalboard:
tc Polytune
Basic Audio Gnarly - fuzz
Fairfield Circuitry Four Eyes - fuzz wah
Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe - fuzz
Strymon El Capistan - tape delay simulator
Throbak Overdrive/Boost - fuzzy overdrive
Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe - univibe and tremolo
Eventide Time Factor - digital delay
Eventide Space - digital reverb
Source Audio - expression pedal
Amp:
Mono to a '93 Vox AC-30 with greenbacks
Stereo to the Vox and a '91 tweed Fender Bassman

Wow, sick rig man. You basically have my two dream guitars haha. And those pedals and amps are all things I've coveted at one time or another.fuzzjunkie wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 12:54 pmPretty impressive. Archie looks like a cool guitar, easy to rock.

Re: It’s been too long...here’s a rig update! Share your rig too!
Ok. I'll play. I have other stuff, but this has been my setup for band use for a while. Apologies for the bad picture.
Guitar
Silvertone 1303/U2 "reissue". Reissue is a misnomer as it's all mahogany (not poplar/masonite hollow construction) and has a modern bridge. It has much more of a LP Special/Jr. vibe but still has the glassy hollow lipstick pickup thing. I also have a silverburst one for backup which is oddly a half pound lighter.
Both are completely stock which I eventually want to change:
I've been doing some experimenting with other guitars, but I still think the Silvertones are the right guitars for live use. Everything in my set is capoed and these Silvertones seem more balanced to me in various capo positions, where other guitars can get shrill or muddy.
For recording all bets are off though
Amp
At-Mars Specialist with Earcandy 1x12 loaded with a WGS G12C/S
Holy shit I love this amp. I bought it used on Reverb and the original owner had a variable high pass filter added which sealed the deal for me. With two pickup guitars I set the high pass to the first click to tame the mud before it hits the speaker. With a Jr. Style guitar it's better wide open. It's built on a old Filmosound chassis, but apparently a lot gets swapped out.
By dumb luck it pairs really nicely with the cab/speaker I already had. The C12C/S (thanks, craigslist) has a little mellower top end which tames the glassy sound I usually go for and the cab is a little heavier and deeper than a typical open back 1x12.
This setup has the best natural crunch I've ever heard in an amp and is also incredibly dynamic. It sounds great plugged straight in, and it sounds great with pedals provided it's paired with the right ones, which brings me to...
Pedals
For drive I alternate between the Madbean Moar (the unlabled silver pedal) and the Pigtronix Class A Boost. Both are set to be pretty subtle. I'll sometimes use them together.
The delay is my standby Maxon AD-80. It's dark, sits in the background, and sounds good. The trem is a Malekko. It sounds quite nice for what it is and fits the space available. I need to dial back the level on the internal trimpot, but I'm lazy.
The reverb is really where the magic happens. Plate is my favorite reverb sound, and while the Talisman doesn't totally nail the studio plate sound it sounds really damn good. I'm running it at 18V and it's always on. It brightens everything up a touch while making it sound more sinister too. It's a cool trick.
The power supply is a Cioks DC-5 mounted under the board (Pedaltrain Nano +), and all patch cables are Mogami 2319 by Tight Squeeze Cables.
Like most pedalboards I don't consider this one "done", but it covers all the sounds I need.

Both are completely stock which I eventually want to change:
- swap out the cheap concentric pots for master volume/master tone setups
- shielding (although the middle position where I generally live is hum canceling)
- get new nuts cut to replace the shitbox plastic ones and to tweak the string spacing slightly
- maybe replace pickups down the road, but honestly the stock ones work fine

Love seeing these and thinking about how they work live. Here's mine.:
Marr-ed '66 Jag (it came to me refinned, heavily routed, and without original pickups)->Mini Ego->Sub n' Up->Clyde Deluxe->Dirt Loop (RM-1n->Acid Fuzz->Fuck->DLS)->effects loop (Kilobyte->Monument->Meteore)->Pitchblack->70 Princeton (practice/live) or '73 DR 2x10" (home/live)
I'm still on the fence about the utility of the loops since I mostly forget to use them, and I'm considering finding a way to fit a JHS VCR in. I don't really need more reverb, but a chorus and boost might occasionally be useful.

Super hot. That red and tort Jaguar is amazing, and red isn’t usually my thing. What kind of stuff do you play with that setup?Gavanti wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 6:07 amLove seeing these and thinking about how they work live. Here's mine.:

Thanks! The main band I’m in tends toward XTC style eclectic pop. I share a lot of the duty for solos and fills with the keyboard player. At home, I prefer shoegaze and heavy psych sounds, and occasionally I have an improv ambient gig with a couple of friends (I usually add a looper and a SqVI for that), so the board has to cover a lot of ground.garyfanclub wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 9:58 am

oh i used to have a red Jag like the '66 above, EXACTLY the same!!! the thread must still be around...
and i also do have an "Archie" Mustang copy like in the OP, but modded for a 3rd pickup between the 2. needs a refret (2 or 3 only) but yeah they are pretty cool!

No pix but pretty simple:
2013 Fender Jazzmaster 1965 AVRI in Firemist Silver/Matching headstock (I think they made 200 of these)
1973 Traynor YGM3 amp (killer amp - like a Deluxe Reverb with EL84)
1976 Park LE 20 amp (very similar to Marshall Lead Bass 20 only single channel)
Lumpys Tone Shop ZII overdrive/distortion - voiced to sound like a Vox UL series amp for that Led Zep ÎI or Joy Division Sound
North Effects clone of Vox Repeat Percussion
Joyo Vintage Overdrive (great sounding TS9 type thing)
Behringer Analog Dely VD400 - really good clone of Boss DM2. These cost less than £20 new on Amazon!
Thinking of moving the Park as they fetch top dollar and getting either TVL JM and change pickups or possibly a Gretsch but I've got a feeling I would want a Japanese Gretsch with the thin 5 (or is it 3 I forget) ply top. I want to get some of these Behringer analog clones as well - either the MiniMoog rack or the Pro One clone when it comes out.
