That is one sharp guitar, and I know it plays and sounds as good as it looks. Hope you really enjoy this one!

What's the verdict now that you've had it a couple days? I've been eyeing a Duo Jet for a while now as a companion to my '62 Starfire - need something with chambering/hollowbody and DeArmonds to keep in an alternate tuning and these fit the bill. Finally figured out that a Duo Jet works well with my fingerstyle technique, which unfortunately never fully clicked or sounded right with a jazzmasterMaggieo wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 11:17 amIt's HERE!! It plays like butter and sounds exactly like a Duo Jet should! Those pickups are astonishing.
It's a toss up between going after the '53 Select like you, or trying to get my hands on a DSV/Cliff Gallup sig with the nitro finish and first fret inlay (but less good pickups ). Need to pay off some debt first but definitely leaning in this direction

Re: NGD: Gretsch Duo Jet
Also, with all this talk of Duo Jets and Bo Diddley, I can't believe I forgot to post this:
Bo Diddley played a Duo-Jet with DeArmonds on his first album. It was before he had the Twang Machine (the rectangle) built, which itself sported DeArmonds in its first incarnation.
He didn't use Filtertrons until he had the Jupiter Thunderbird built in 1959.
My point is that your Duo Jet will cover all the Bo Diddley tones on his first couple of albums, and your G6138 will cover the rest. And boy, were all those tones great.

You know I'm the world's biggest Bo Diddley fan. And you're 100% correct- my Gretsches *are* The Gunslinger!Embenny wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 8:07 pmAlso, with all this talk of Duo Jets and Bo Diddley, I can't believe I forgot to post this:

As soon as I plugged the Duo into my Strymon DECO, I hit tonal Nirvana. They're a prefect match. I especially like the "ting!" the aluminiumn bridge gives to the sound. It's just delightful, and the Dynas translate it into a fantastic twang, ala, yes, Bo Diddley or Cliff Gallup. What's the verdict now that you've had it a couple days? Really, it's under 6lbs with a Bigsby and everything?
Damn, does Gretsch ever know how to make a fine guitar.

I recently saw a cover band and the guitar player played one of these into a few chase bliss pedals. He managed to cover a wide array of tones....

Woah. That's pretty wild, over here I thought just under 7 lbs was light for one of these, that's certainly not a number I was expecting. I bet that one is real resonant too, damn.
I just gotta get over the hangup of these not being nitro finished and get some money together

Re: NGD: Gretsch Duo Jet
It's nutso how light it is. I re-weighed it (bathroom scale) and got a 6.2lbs result this time.
I'm not complaining!
