Hey folks. On a lark, I just picked up a 2007 Gibson SG Classic with P90s. Quite a change from my Jazzmaster! One small issue I have to sort out: one of the tone pots is broken on the metal part you put the knob on. Otherwise, it functions. I opened up the SG but all the pots just say Gibson on the back, so I'm not sure what to put in there. Any thoughts?

If you're thinking in terms of pot value, you want 500k most likely, or at least that's what most Gibsons come stock with.

I'm assuming you probably mean that one side of the split-shaft is broken off. If that's the case, you could also probably get a knob with a set screw to stay on. (and they make conversion sleeves out of brass that you can get for the other pots if you want them to match)

May want to look up that model year. It could have 300K pots.

Pretty sure the SG Classics use 500k pots, as someone also mentioned above.

If you get 500k you can put a fixed resistor across the outer lugs and knock it down to 300k effective.

If you want to temporarily fix the guitar, you can cut a piece of wood or plastic to fill in the broken side and use a bit of that double stick foam tape where the 'gap' would be. then press the knob back on.

Hey folks. Yeah, the biggest issue that that the one part of the shaft is broken off. So the pot is functional, but I can't get the knob on it. This was undisclosed on a craigslist buy. I get out there and the guy says he just noticed it when he took it out of the case. It was a $600 SG that definitely had some mileage on it, but ones with P90s don't seem to pop up much, so I just lumped it.

So it seems there's some uncertainty what kind of pot to put in there. I wonder if Gibson can help me sort it out. It's a nice guitar, insanely light compared to anything else I've ever owned.

Just to bring some closure here, turns out Gibson's got decent telephone customer support. The tone pot is indeed a 500K short shaft, so I've ordered one and hope it's not too much trouble to install.

I feel a little bit bad in saying this, but this SG, bought on lark, might push out my Jazzmaster as my main guitar. The neck is just effortless to play. I knew that I like flat radius necks, but the SG really drove it home. The guitar is also super light, but not in a way that feels like it was made out of cheap wood. The dude who owned it before me claimed there are Loller P90s installed and I haven't check it, but regardless I'm getting the sound I like out of this instrument. I've taken risks on guitars in the past only to be disappointed. This SG is a revelation to me.
