I decided to break the offset-only hope that I had, and went for a '72 RI Thinline Telecaster in Black.
I ordered it from Japan and being a lefty, it is SUPER rare.
(I realized long ago to search eBay/Reverb with the Japanese model #, "TC72", "TN72", "JM66", "JG66", etc)

So....i ordered a black pickguard from WD Music, and new electronics from Sweetwater (using 1Meg pots).

I hope to have a nice humbucker-sounding guitar to compliment my Jazzmaster, and a Thinline at that!

Anyway, i'll try to post some pics when i get it.

Awesome. Tele thinlines are really great guitars. I had a '72 RI for a little while that both came & went as part of some trades. That's great that you tracked down a lefty MIJ.

One thing I wish I had known about back then was the "6 screw mod" where you remove one row of polepieces to get the pickups sounding clearer. The RI pickups are essentially large PAFs, so you can just take the 6 exposed screws out just like you can with a PAF (the old mod people did on the 70's WRHBs invovled unscrewing the hidden poles from the back, but those are just slugs on the reissues).
