I just had a mini-toggle added to my Legacy in order to get the seven way switching, it adds all three pickups at once (likely not all that useful) as well as the bridge/neck together, for which I have more hope.

Just a thought, since you have the toggle on there anyway.

Thanks for the tip, I was wondering what to do with that toggle. That’s a better suggestion than the kill switch I was contemplating.

Now to decide if it becomes all 3 pickups, or neck and bridge for some tele esque sounds.

Well, it'll do both simultaneously- I have mine set to turn the neck pickup on regardless of the other switching, so when the bridge pickup is solo'd I can add the neck that way, or when it's in position 3 on the five way switch and the bridge and middle pickups are selected, I can add the neck for all three.

Ever since I sold that black '57 AVRI Strat, I've been craving another. That was a REALLY good guitar that I got for super cheap, but alas... I sold it. Thinking about putting the mint guard with CS '69s back on my Strat. I'm digging Strats lately and that one is a great one!

Also, anyone know of any good new vintage-style Strat trems that aren't too ridiculous in price?

Did your 57AVRI have a 3- or 5-way switch?

+1 for this. All of my strats have a neck on/off toggle for that neck/bridge combo - which sounds fantastic. And as long as the wiring has already been modified, consider moving the bridge pu to the second tone knob. IME, the bridge pu with the tone at 6-7 combined with the neck pu can be a lovely tone. Also, with no tone filter on the middle pu, that position is more useful too - it's like a built-in subtle clean boost.

5 way, but had the 3 in the case from what I remember.

My Strat type guitar is a Legacy, so it doesn't have that kind of wiring anyway, it has a dedicated treble and bass knob that will pertain to all pickups- good advice, though!

I think Fender ships the AVRI Strats with five way but includes the three way in the case in the event that someone wants that.

I believe that's correct as well.

I got the bridge for my '57 CV from Callaham. It's really well made and takes an Adrian Belew-like whuppin' from me.

I had the three-way switch on Skippy (My '83 '62RI) for twenty years and when it wore out I put the five-way in and haven't looked back since.

yeah, I wasn't sure how to answer that question regarding price, but Callaham is the best choice- spend what you have to in order to get the best and be done with it.

That makes sense.

My next hurdle is finding someone to do the frets. I know two guys in town, one does so-so work, the other does good work, but takes months.

Going to chat with a buddy tomorrow and see who he recommends. He’s a strat guy, works at a vintage shop and he’ll know someone who can do a maple board properly.

This is my exact preferred Strat wiring.

My second favorite is a master tone with a blend knob for the 3rd knob, instead of the 7-way toggle.

I do find the independent tone for the bridge pickup to be hugely useful.
