You can even order the part by itself. The seller told me they come from their Korean suppliers.

OK that makes sense then ... Korea has a shit load of stuff that isn't made in China, but which China imports.
Much of the really high quality tuners used on Chinese made guitars and Ukuleles are manufactured in Korea.

There are Korean-made short vibrolas (NOT "LYRE" VIBROLAS!! Those are only the long style with the lyre engraving on the cover plate, and those wouldn't fit on a Flying V.)

The short (non-tail) vibrolas are certainly easy enough to find, and Epiphone and others have used them on various guitars. Epiphone used a "Lyre" vibrola on their more deluxe Firebird VII.

I have a short vibrola on my '67 RI V, and it is a great little unit, stays in tune and looks pretty cool to me!
