I am boring and predictable is the first clue.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

It would be easier to stump people if I did something different other than buying the same guitar brand all the time.

It's a Gibson.

2 minutes, a new record!

The next question is, "why is this another Gibson acoustic?"

I see that you did sell your Taylor, correct? If I would have bought that and then put up a thread like this and then you would have guessed it in the first post since you sold it to me then that would have been even quicker and less satisfying than this.

Nope, you were right. It sold on reverb and the rest of the day I felt terrible. I bought it for $380~ and I'm pretty sure there's no way that I would ever get another guitar of that quality for that price.

He messaged me the next day asking if I could cancel it. It had to be fate. It's going out to get set up tomorrow, actually.

Anyway, a j29 would be interesting, but I'm putting my money on j15.

Yeah, for $380 that's a no-brainer to keep. You won't get another guitar of that quality for that money, no doubt about that- I'm glad the sale fell through and I thought about buying it for the $500 or whatever you wanted and that would have been a good deal.

You can always use more than one acoustic... alternate tunings and such.

And you are right, I would have bought a J-29 but could not find one at a very good price. I probably will one day, though, but they were rare and not all that popular and are going up in price from what I can see.

The J-15 I got for a good price, it'll be here early next week. I'm pretty excited, actually.

I was very, very impressed by the J15 I played. I already said it in the other thread, but I thought it was the best guitar in the store by far. A shame that so many are put off by the walnut, it sounds great and the backs usually look really nice.

The walnut is what I got it for.

Larry, I don't know whether you happen to know this ..... I really like Gibson (and Epiphone) acoustics :D
So I am looking forward to your review of this one.
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

I'll be sure to give some thoughts about it when I get it! I'm looking forward to trying out the walnut.

So, for anyone who doesn't know, the J-15 is basically just the J-45 but with the walnut back and sides instead of the mahogany, it still has the modern Gibson bracing under there.

This will be in contrast to the J-35 that I own, which has the "advanced" or "forward shifted" bracing that Gibson used back in the day (I doubt it's an exact replica) and still uses in the Advanced (geddit) Jumbo and also they used it in the J-29.

I'll try to have some coherent thoughts about all three. Really, I'd like to have gotten the J-29 which is basically an Advanced Jumbo but with the 24.75" scale instead of the 25.5" also, and I'll still upset Mike some day with the purchase of yet another Gibson acoustic if I am so lucky.

That being said, though, I got the J-15 at a good enough price that if I find it redundant, I could sell it in time for a modest profit or use it as a pawn in an attractive trade. I keep reading about how the walnut will offer a more broad frequency range than does mahogany although not quite as much as rosewood does- this is just what I've read, I don't know this personally. But I'll be interested to find out.

That's kind of the point of this whole thing- I've got maple, rosewood, mahogany, bubinga and sapele at this point, I thought to try out a new tone wood for a bit. Especially since I am noticing that Gibson is trying to make a real push of walnut, as it's a more sustainable and sourceable wood compared to other choices, and I think I am seeing other larger guitar makers explore walnut as well. I thought I would get on board and see what it was all about.
