Green Sparkle & Mother of Toilet Seat!

Post by TeenageShutdown! » Sun Mar 31, 2019 12:22 pm

I picked this Italia up recently from a very nice drunk woman. She was selling off some of her mid-30’s son’s guitars that she had bought for him over the years. Apparently he’s quite a musician with tons of guitars, amps, basses, drum sets, recording equipment, etc. “He took all the Fender’s, Gibson’s, Gretsch’s, (and more) when he left” I was told.

After the chit chat & transaction, she took me into the dinning room to show me a dog eared photograph of her son at age 3 being on stage with Sting & the Police. I thought this was pretty cool for her to share with me & I’m sure quit a proud moment for her as a parent.

Anyways, the guitar is from 2009 & spent basically its entire life as a case queen. The guitar is dead mint & came with the OHSC. I gave it much needed full set up & a good cleaning, even though it saw little use it was very quite filthy.

The body is agathis wood, Gotoh pearloid key tuners, & has Wilkinson pickups that sound fantastic-quite smooth and articulate. The Bigsby style arm was missing so being the frugal guy that I am I took an extra JM arm and threaded the end to fit into the trem. This seems to work pretty good. The saddle slots got the round file treatment & the bridge has zero play on the posts. I replaced the switch tip with a Tele knob I had lying around & replace the control knobs with gold ones. The entire back of the guitar is covered with mother of toilet seat that has aged from white porcelain to a piss yellow. The neck is slightly chunky, but feels great & quite smooth.

Overall I really love this guitar. It has the feel & vibe of a 60’s Japanese or Euro guitar, but with significantly better quality and a neck that isn’t a giant turd. I really love what this company is doing in terms of originality & just straight up doing their own thing, in a punk kind of way.

I dig it. Reminds me of the Italian EKO electrics from the 60s that had the same pearloid backs and necks.
The guitar shaped panel on the back is a nice touch.

Very nice. I've considered a Moderna on many occasions.

Nice! I like the company's approach- the one Italia I've owned so far (Rimini 12) was quite impressive. I've been tempted by the Modena before, your comments about yours has brought the temptation back.

A bit more sparkle than I'd like personally, but I LOVE the shape! The body shape and the pickguard shape really compliment each other well.
