NGD: G&L F-100 1980 Series 1

Post by sirspens » Sun Mar 31, 2019 5:39 pm

So, the other day I pulled out my phone as I received an email. A "price drop" alert from Reverb. For what?

This.

This beautiful, 1980, SERIES 1, G&L F-100. Price dropped to $600.

I don't know what the seller was thinking (there is one small paint chip on the upper horn, but come on!), but I couldn't push buttons fast enough to get it snatched up. But I did it. And I am excitedly awaiting the arrival right now. I love my G&Ls and I am excited to own and play this piece of the earliest G&L history.

I'll take pictures when it gets here.

Great deal. Wow.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

$600 is absurd! Congrats on the incoming NGD. I have a 1980 F-100 as well (jazz burst) and you're in for a treat.

Damn! I’ve been looking at that same exact one on Reverb the last couple weeks. Congrats on the score!

Congratulations. I think these are amazing sleeper guitars.

I recently picked up a F-100 series II on craigslist for more than that (1981, a refin and nowhere near as clean as yours, but: silver sparkle!). I'm really impressed with it so far. It feels very much like an old Fender and sounds great. I'm still getting my head around the controls, but it seems like there isn't really a bad sound in there.

The micro-tilt actually seems to work, too. I'm sure somebody's said this before, but it seems like it's all sorts of Leo's ideas from his later years at Fender but slightly improved.

Mine didn't come with a trem arm, but there's a guy on Reverb who makes them (and is a super G&L fanatic) for around $30.

Enjoy. And what a bargain.
