Some of the "Holy Grails" listed in this thread i could have bought with my high school dishwasher part time job.. WTH?

I think I'm done now.

In fact ... I'm still in guitar surplus over my bucket list. But here's the stuff I'll hold onto for life:

1962 Jazzmaster - my first end state guitar. I no longer lust after old Fenders.

1964 ES335 - my latest, and most likely last Gibson. I've gone through the full range of Gibson hollow and semi-hollow guitars, and landed on this. I no longer lust after old Gibsons.

1964(?) Levin small body - I've grown to love this guitar. The J45 got sacrificed to the gods for the 335 ... and I'm okay with this as I have the Levin. I no longer really lust for old acoustics...

Done.

I'd love to see that Levin, Despot. Is there a thread on that somewhere?

There should be Steven - I think I might have titled it Goya (it's a Goya 'made in Sweden' - so Levin without the badge).

I'll take a look to see if I can find it and I'll add it here when I do.

Very nice. I should take some pictures of my Goya/Levin branded triple O. It needs a fair bit of work as it has several cracks on the top and some loose braces. Not sure if it's entirely worth it to fix up, but I'm tempted to do some of the repairs myself.

Have you had one of these before? I've got to tell you ... those old '60s Juniors are superb guitars. I've only had one ... but it was just as good a guitar as any '50s Junior I've had or played. Juniors tend to have big club necks too - not always, but usually around '64/'65 you can expect it to be more like a '50s neck.

Yeah, they're nice guitars. They're not (by any means) going to de-throne an old '50s Martin 000, but they're great for what they are. At first I thought (coming from the bigger body guitars) that it sounded a bit boxy. But I've come to love it - I'm primarily an electric guitar player anyway, so I thought having a really good ES guitar trumped having an old J45 that wouldn't get used as much as an ES. I thought I'd have more buyer's remorse about that, but actually I haven't missed the J45, which ultimately says it all really...

Mine is barely an acoustic guitar. It's super boxy, very bright, and has almost no volume. It's a mess but it sure is pretty!

But I must say, an acoustic is such an intimate instrument...I know everyone says it should sound like a choir of angels...but what if it just sounded like one angel? That is just as beautiful...just different.

I haven't had one- the SG Classic I got here about ten years back is the closest I've come to something like that.

Tell you guys the truth, I think I'd be willing to liquidate a lot of music and camera gear to get that guitar, or one close to it.

I think one of the benefits to getting older is learning who you are and what you like. Through various experimentation, buying and selling, I have learned what I like...

My GOT TO HAVE guitars, the ones I feel naked without are these:

• Gibson Les Paul

Custom or Standard, PAF or P90... this is my number 1 go to guitar. I own a 2016 Sweetwater exclusive non-weight relieved Traditional that I have modified with Faber hardware, nylon nut, Sanford Magnetics “Model 22” PAF clones and 50s wiring w/ .022 PIO caps. I have compared it to a real ‘58 burst and they are nearly identical in tone and playability... the real ‘59 was more played in... that’s it.

• Gibson Firebird V

I have a 2009 one I bought used, 50s wiring, getting some Lollar pickups for it, currently has alnico GFS “Liverpool” Filtertron copies, they are cool but I want those Lollar Firebird pickups.

• Rickenbacker 330

Any variation is good, they do so much more than jangle. Criminally overlooked guitar for lead.

• Martin Custom D

This is a made in the USA all solid wood budget guitar sold only by Musicians Friend. No frills, sounds amazing especially in double drop D. You can get them for less than $1000 w/ hard case.

Everything else is extra, expendable, and although I enjoy the novelty of having these following guitars I could sell them tomorrow and not regret a thing...

Telecaster, anything Gretsch, Mosrite copies, Danelectro guitars, Strats... all of these I like but I rarely pick them up.
