Forgive me if this isn’t new but I think it may be and it looks pretty damn cool. It appears to be a new G&L called the Espada.

I like what G&L is doing of late - active preamp to Electric XII style MFDs, just like Leo wanted :)

Aren't those what the prototype Z-coils looked like?

Love it. Love the control panel. If they put that stuff in a Doheny or Fallout body it'd be an instant buy for me.

Edit - just read that they are indeed based on the prototype pickups.

Man, I love this. Especially the series-parallel wiring, which I really like on Z-coils.

Finally! I think they got prototype at last NAMM.

Waiting for the G&L Espada Tribute!

I like how it looks, and it sounded cool... But it has a pre-amp with a 9 volt battery. I don't see the point of that: I'd rather use a pedal to do the same thing.

There is a switch to bypass it.

I know! In my opinion, which is mine, it just seems like an extra bit of electronics that uselessly complicates the guitar and probably makes it heavier.

Of course, I would love to try it out. Who knows, maybe I'd like it!

They put a small demo up, but the amp they used is trash, so it doesn’t sound as good as the original video footage I saw.

I’ve had Music Man models with batteries. You don’t really get additional weight from the preamp.
I imagine the circuit in the Espada is similar in weight.
Preamp is good for recording more than anything else.

The preamp is also good for running long cables without losing high end to capacitance.

I think they should use the espada headstock on every G&L from now on.

Same as (or close to) old F100 or SC-Series guitars - which are different from each other in themselves. I like it too.

Yeah, I have both an '80 F-100 and '86 SC-3 and find their headstocks vastly preferable to the modern "nipple" headstocks. Would be happy to see more along these lines from G&L in the future.

I love the hook headstock. Always did.
Not too keen on the S-500/Legacy Version, but I love the one used on ASATs and Fallout/SC2 headstock.
